Transmission Oil Cooler

I have a 2011 WK2 with Offroad Adventure Package II and Trailer Tow Package IV. A local transmission shop recommended the installation of an external transmission oil cooler since I tow a 5,000 lbs travel trailer. I was surprised that Tow Package IV does not include a transmission oil cooler. I have seen the transmission oil temperature run up to 240. Why didn't Jeep put a transmission oil cooler on the car? Do I need to install one?

Re: Transmission Oil Cooler

The parts manual does show the existence of a transmission oil cooler.

It's not clear, though, whether it's supposed be standard, or part of trailer tow, etc.

Re: Transmission Oil Cooler

The V8 with tow package has the added cooler I believe, the V6 model does not get it no matter what combo you have.

Edit: along with larger breaks on the V8 model when equipped with the tow package.

Re: Transmission Oil Cooler

It appears the trans cooler and air con condenser are one unit divided into two.
Top quarter transmission cooler.
Bottom 3/4 condenser.
just had a look at my WK2
after looking at the parts catalog.
