Truck Bumping

Hey everyone, so yesterday i was driving down a very slim road and parked on the side was a huge truck with those extended side mirrors. Things must have stuck out about a foot away from the truck itself. Well needless to say i got to close and smacked my right side passenger mirror against his huge mirror. Luckily my mirror folded in and nothing happened to the mirror itself, but the glass sheet popped out and shattered on the ground.. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on where to buy a piece of replacement glass for a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, right passenger side mirror. Just the glass is all i need. Ive been searching for ever with no luck and Im trying not to go through the dealership right now, and my insurance is not covering the costs.

Thanks in advance,
Jared

Re: Truck Bumping

Since it fell out, I assume then that you can replace just the glass and not the entire unit. WK2 has been out long enough that your local junk yard (I mean, "used parts dealer") can hook you up with the part.

Re: Truck Bumping

Just the mirror itself (without the housing) shouldn't cost that much, maybe $30 or so. I'd check with the dealer.

Re: Truck Bumping

Just the mirror glass itself can cost from $34.00 - $554.00 msrp, depending whether it's self dimming, blind spot warning, etc.

I forgot about that fancy, expensive stuff!! Another reason I don't like blind spot monitoring, but that's another topic.

I did a quick search on ebay and found the passenger side glass only for about $65. It's heated, not sure about auto dimming or BSM.

Re: Truck Bumping

I remember back in the 70's when anyone traveled down U.S. 1 in the Florida Keys. "Mirror Smacking" took place everywhere, because they constructed that part of the highway on railroad bridges. And most all the lanes were way too narrow to accommodate cars and trucks with extended mirrors. You could see the remains of these mirrors laying all over the centerline. The pavement would actually sparkle in the Sun from all of the bits of broken mirrors you would see along the road. This existed until they widened the entire route, including most of the bridges in the 80's.

Sorry that your junk yard didn't have the part. Normally they communicate with other local yards before turning someone with cash away.
