Re: turned off Forward Collision Avoidance today

Mine started acting squirrelly after we started towing our Travel Trailer. Took it back to the dealer for a re-calibration and it's been fine ever since

I wonder if that was because the attitude of the sensor changed due to vehicle balance while towing. A WDH adjusted properly should help with this, too.

I leave the warning on but turn the braking off. And just explain to the missus that on the curvy roads, a bicycle just following the road can set it off.

Never had it trigger on a bike in the bike lane unless the road is curving to the left rather sharply.

I don't mind it triggering on cars stopped on the right, as I've had more than a few
"instances of blind, ignorant, doofus" pulling right out in front of me.

It seems to false alarm, but I figure one non-false alarm could ruin my entire day--not to mention my front bumper and insurance rates.

Ayup, and us married folks probably consider it a bit less distracting than "passenger seat driving comments"

Re: turned off Forward Collision Avoidance today

I have had it brake twice on me, with cars in front, that I did not consider an "emergency" situation.
It did however save my dumb ass when I first bought it. I was testing the ACC and traffic way ahead of me was at a near atop and I was doing fwy speeds. She beeped and started braking hard, then my foot went on the brake. I knew I could stop but was very worried about the vehicle behind me. Almost had to change my shorts, all cause I was relying on ACC to stop the vehicle like in those safety crash avoidance commercials. It worked, but I never want to do that again lol.

Mostly I find it just manages to startle me in non-emergency situations. (yes, I have tried both near and far settings). I don't want to wait for it to over brake me in traffic.

Love the cruise by radar but I find the Forward Collision Avoidance just scary. Am I the only one?
You are not the only one! In the first 50 miles I owned the SRT, I was driving and all of the sudden BAMM the dash is flashing red and violently stopping/shaking. There was a car turning right and by no means was I going to hit it, but the Jeep sure thought I was. I pay attention when I drive; follow safe distances dependent on speed, scan my surroundings and BTW have amazing brakes. I do see the value in the feature, just not for me. If I slam into the back of someone, shame on me (and for not having the collision warning enabled HAHA)!!

Re: turned off Forward Collision Avoidance today

Check if the cover for the sensor came off. The warning went off like nobody busy because the cover was missing. It started to get better after I put the cover back on and it's just a $10 fixed.

That's what I would do. My 2013 doesn't have active breaking and occasionally gives false warnings. There's one particular hill I go over most days that sets it off every time. But it has saved me maybe a dozen times in a past few years. Being sleepy + morning stop and go traffic is a bad combo.

Adaptive cruise, by the way, has become a must have feature for me. I'll never own a car without this, and a car that would add steering to this would be a huge selling point (one big reason I'm looking at Tesla).

Re: turned off Forward Collision Avoidance today

It's not quite what I am used to for active braking/collision avoidance, but I keep it on. I wish it were a bit more active like the system I had on my Infiniti QX56; it would automatically slow the vehicle down or stop it entirely as I approached another but I had to turn it on at every startup because it had just one default mode of OFF. As someone else said, if it prevents one accident then it is worth all of the false alerts one might experience.

I have only heard it twice in 6600 miles. The first time it yelled was legitimate, I was looking at a building instead of the cars in front of me and a car decided to suddenly brake to make a left turn. The second time was false from a car that took its time going into a left turn lane. Neither situation resulted in active braking.

Re: turned off Forward Collision Avoidance today

I have had it alert to a car in front of my when the car slowed and pulled into a left turn lane. I have yet to experience it hitting the brakes. To be honest, if I drive conservatively, which is most of the time, it never seems to go off. A good reminder to drive more conservatively IMHO! Too bad it only beeps. I would love to hear it say "Brake, Brake, Brake" or "Bandit Ahead" or something more entertaining.

The first time it went off, it startled me. After that, I knew what it was doing and hasn't startled me since. I like it.

Re: turned off Forward Collision Avoidance today

What I don't get is why, when already in ACC mode, it will still flash BRAKE! BRAKE! and beep loudly, when it is already in control and fully breaking on its own. No need to turn my hair white when it has the situation under control from the get-go.

Same here. I had the active braking on for a bit after we bought the car. After a couple unneeded panic stops in city traffic, I turned that crap off. Basically if I was sitting in traffic and moved forward while the car in front of me was slowing down, it would violently slam on the brakes. That crap will get you rear-ended very quickly.

I also think the dash warning lights go off way too often, but the one time it saves me, I'll be happy it's on. I can almost predict when it is going to go off based on my driving style. In the city, I got warned like twice a day from turning vehicles.
