turned off Forward Collision Avoidance today

After having it on for about 5000 miles I'm done with it. So far it has warned me and in some cases braked for bicycles in the bicycle lanes, curbs and signs on sweeping turns, center dividers on the freeway, people moving into turning outs (they are close to the road but not in the road).

Mostly I find it just manages to startle me in non-emergency situations. (yes, I have tried both near and far settings). I don't want to wait for it to over brake me in traffic.

Love the cruise by radar but I find the Forward Collision Avoidance just scary. Am I the only one?

This feature has saved my butt on to occasions. I like it. It does wake you up in a hell of a hurry. You turn your head for a second and bang.

I like it.

I have had my 2014 Summit for about 18 months now. The FCW has only gone off once and it was correct.

Re: turned off Forward Collision Avoidance today

It scares the crap out of my wife when it goes off. Usually it's just that I'm getting too close to someone turning right who hasn't completely cleared the roadway. I'm afraid that if I turn it off and run into something I'll be kicking myself. I've been driving for 22 years and haven't run into anything yet with no electronic nanny.

I've been driving over 30 years with no electronic nanny. Everything from Trucks to Vettes to Motorcycles.

I have read some issues being investigated with the 2014s applying brakes with no pending collision.

Re: turned off Forward Collision Avoidance today

Just turn active braking off. It will still alert you via the dash board and beep at you, but will never actually brake for you.

Re: turned off Forward Collision Avoidance today

While it's provided a valid warning to me multiple times, if it prevents a collision even once, I'm happy to endure the occasional false warnings as even then they are a good reminder to pay attention.

Probably the best attitude towards the system. They are never going to be perfect.

I totally agree!

The only "false" alerts I get are from vehicles turning off the street I'm also on. These alerts seem to happen more when vehicles are in the left turn lane. The system seems to work better with vehicles exiting to the right.

The few "false" alerts are minor issues that are well worth the added safety the system provides.

Weirdly I have only gotten false alerts...It has never given an actual alert.

Has it ever failed to alert when you think it should have?

Re: turned off Forward Collision Avoidance today

I've had mine on since we bought the vehicle and still love it. Only had it alert incorrectly once, but a plastic bag did fly in front of me from the car ahead, so it made sense why it went off. It's made my wife a bit of a better driver too as she doesn't ride the car in front as much as she had in the past. She hates when the car chimes on her, but I love it since I no longer have to say anything and get the evil eyes.
