turning off auto shut down on 2016 wk2

My son just got an 2016 grand had a 02 wj with over 250,000 miles and trans just went on it Any way got this new jeep BUT HATE HATE HATE this dumb auto shut down at red lights There is a button on the dash to turn it off BUT every time you get in and start jeep it turns it self back on So no we have to hit the button every time we start it There has to be a way to disable this permanently
Not to happy with this new jeep it really not as good as the old 02 wj and this jeep is NOT a true 4X4 no mater what they say nothing beats a select trac 4x4

turning off auto shut down on 2016 wk2

This sounds like the 14' ECO button scenario, nearly exact. It wasn't until the following year (15') where they instituted the correction to keep the button off at startup if it was turned off.

Not sure there will be a fix for your current model. Maybe I'm wrong though and it will be a quick correction.

250K!!! Nice....

Re: turning off auto shut down on 2016 wk2

There currently is no "permanent" shut off for the auto start/stop feature. Therefore, you must "push the button" each time you drive the vehicle to disable it for that trip.

I'm trying to think what these geniuses will come up with next, in order to try and boost fuel economy? Perhaps they'll ditch the, "capless fuel system", and go to an automatic lock that will only allow you to refuel once a month.

Re: turning off auto shut down on 2016 wk2

It's all a part of meeting EPA fuel economy ratings. I'm sure someone will figure out a way to diasble it eventually but I doubt that will come from FCA.

It's no big deal to me. It's a learned memory from having to turn off the ECO button on my 14. Now on my 16 it just moves one button to the left. It's such a part of my startup procedure that I don't even think about doing it.

Re: turning off auto shut down on 2016 wk2

Get used to it reynolds, start/stop feature will likely be on every new vehicle. I think it's more of an emissions thing over fuel economy.

It's only an annoyance if you make it into one.

Maybe if some intelligence was used to design or redesign all the streets/roads, etc. so that there weren't any stop signs or stop lights (or at least far less), this environmental/liberal stuff ruining the driving experience wouldn't be implemented.

Re: turning off auto shut down on 2016 wk2

I heard that all MY 16's are now set up that way. There may not be a one and done scenario any longer. . My 14 has a switch that I turned off a long time ago. Now the same vehicle in the 16 MY. I'm told that it is always set to default in the on position. Just add it to the preflight list. We will all be in the same boat I believe.
