After 2 months and 2.5k miles of ownership, some observations as to improvements that I would like to see in future models. Some of the comments pertain to my build, being Overland w/ Hemi. The order is not specific to preference or priority.
Add a keyless touch sensor to tailgate latch. There shouldn't be a separate button to unlock. Perhaps this is done for glass and tailgate.
Add keyless touch sensors to rear doors handles.
Audio for 730N, needs an overhaul for the interface, Nav and iPod connection. I shouldn't need to reselect the iPod as preferred device each time power is cycled. Yes there can be a 1-2 minute delay for the iPod to be recognized but give me the option for a default device.
Terrain Control, allow for user defined default setting (i.e. Sport vs. Auto).
Change the interior lighting color from green to blue, red, or something better. Dash lighting is very good.
Better response w/ Hemi. My build date is June 2011 and should have the current TSB's. However the throttle response is lacking. Seems to be programmed for fuel economy.
More aggressive exhaust profile. Muted for a V8 with some much advertised torque and HP.
One-touch window controls for rear.
Overall I do like the JGC but I would like to see some improvements. Perhaps some will be added in the mid-cycle refresh.
I’ve been in my ’11 GC-X for 10 months now. Here are my top annoyances: 1.The doors open too far. I have to find the widest spot in the lot to prevent making contact with the vehicle next to me. (And have to warn all my passengers to hold the doors.) 2.The overhead console (sun glass holder) blocks a considerable portion of my rear view mirror. 3.The rear wiper mounted on the glass is crazy. It adds weight to the window and reduces visibility. 4.The dashboard mounted HVAC vents cast a reflection in the side view mirrors and window glass. (Was considering removing them and painting them flat black, but can’t figure out how to remove them and Jeep is not publishing a Service Manual for another year.)

Have you tried sliding the rear view mirror down? I had the same issue after a windshield install and when the installer came back he figured that one out.
Silver – Thanks for the tip. I checked and did not see instructions for removing the vents. The entire dashboard – yes. The vents – no. Thanks again. Bob.
Not sure how I forgot this one: The roof mounted antenna which makes it virtually impossible to park the Jeep in an average size garage. I’m thinking of going with the shark fin, but $80 is kinda steep to resolve Chrysler’s poor planning. C’mon guys…. $40k and I can’t park in the garage?!? WTH?
Does your antenna hit the top garage door frame? If not, most rolling door openers allow for door height adjustment. You may have just enough room to clear the antenna. Just a thought.

The touch sensors don't bother me too much -- The layout is pretty much the industry standard. And I thought the interior lighting was very well thought out -- I don't care about the color really. And I have never seen a car with auto rear windows. In fact, I think this is a safety feature for pets and kids.
Now The Hemi -- Yes, I think that it deserves a lil more growl. I think they made a big mistake on the design of the exhaust by not making it easy to bolt on an inexpensive axel back upgrade (Only the pass side is bolt on). And the price of the Full exhaust is high. My guess is MDS makes it tough to build an exhaust that pleases everyone, so they went with the safe option on it.
Throttle Response on mine was also sluggish until I put a K&N drop in in. It adds a clear amount of pep to the throttle -- but nothing much more than that. Either way, was well worth the price of admission (I paid $39).
I agree it needs auto rear windows too. Many manufactures have this feature, but it is in the higher end MB, Lexus, BMW, LR.... the window lock feature is for safety. Also only the driver can auto the rear windows. My LR had auto up and down on all 4 windows. But hey I rarely open mine anyways to need that feature.

items in bold are major gripes of mine as well. Every time I go to open the trunk I wish there was a keyless sensor there.
The green interior lighting is awful and does not flow well with the dash lighting. This isn't 1998 .... they really dropped the ball here - especially since [i believe] there is blue lighting in the durango.

Agreed (as noted in my opening post). It's not the location of the accent lighting but purely the color. I didn't test drive the JGC until early June so it was degrees of daylight.
Having owned an Audi, that was a good example of how to use color and location for interior lighting.
CHICKEN BITES! I hate them and they hurt like hell. For those that dont know, its when someone pinches you under the arm, or when the door locks go down!. They get me a lot and i always say why the hell didnt i remember that!
I really just want better build quality. My Jeep has had a lot of issues ever since I bought it two months ago. I would be willing to give up things like the auto brights, rain sensing wipers and pano-roof for better quality. I guess I wouldn't mind a more up-to-date nav than my RHR, but I've gotten used to it.
Cabinetman, Boss 302, really nice car! How do you like it? Long-term investment or just a weekend car?
Of the three current generation muscle cars, I feel Ford has the best option. While I haven't test driven one, the Boss 302 has the right ingredients for pure performance at a "reasonable" price (minus dealer availability fee).
The Boss is purely a weekend toy. I've had it for about 5 weeks and just now eclipsed the 500 mile mark. Hopefully, I will get out to the track when it cools off around here and see what the Boss will do in its natural habitat.
Hey Gang – Just wanted to get back to everybody with their questions and ideas:
1.Capitalst– I am having second thoughts on the shark fin. J13ntv (in another thread on this site) advises his reception has degraded a lot since he added one. Both J13ntv and I are on Long Island, so I might have to live vicariously through his example. Particularly since the investment is not cheap.
2.77Cherokee– Thanks for the idea, but the antenna is hitting the door frame. For the time being I have to scramble up the side of the Jeep and remove the antenna in order to get the damn thing in the garage.
3.Hammer1234 – Thanks for the tip on tilting the mirror. Unfortunately the mirror and overhead console do not want to agree with my seating position. I’m trying to figure out how to remove just the sunglass compartment from the overhead console to see if that improves visibility.
4.Celly – Sorry to bring the “reflecting vents” to your attention. Once I figure out how to liberate them from the rest of the dash and paint them flat black. I will let you know.
Right now I’m laying low waiting for Hurricane Irene to hit Long Island. Hope all other jeepgarage members on the east coast are safe and dry. Bob.
I've had a few Mustangs over the years. Just prior to the Boss I had a 2011 GT500 with the SVT Performance Package. The Shelby looked great and had more bells and whistles than the Boss, but the engine is just too much for the chassis and tires. I actually feel like I'm faster in the Boss because I can put all the power down sooner without so much wheel spin. Also, the front end of the Boss feels lighter and more direct than the Shelby did.
I think the sharkfin looks good. Mine should be here this week for my new ride.
As for reception, I have not read many complaints, and they may be due to incorrect fitting.
I think the ancient antenna looks worse and it silly when you run roof bars, as you cannot put many things on the roof with it fitted.
The steering wheel mounted radio control that toggles between radio stations. This should really toggle between presets instead of just everything. The single middle button only goes down on presets, you should be able to go both ways. Bugs the heck out of me!
