Uconnect 8.4AN question

Hi guys! My husband and I just purchased a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited & it came with Uconnect 8.4AN. It's the first time I've ever seen the Uconnect, so forgive my ignorance, but I'm trying to find out how it works exactly. Here's my question...

The jeep came with a 12 month trial to Uconnect Access, but I don't know if I'll be willing to put out the extra $$ to keep the subscription after that. Which features will I lose once it's over? My main concerns are the navigation & the bluetooth hands-free phone (I have an iPhone). Are those features of Uconnect or are they standard with the jeep & will remain on after the subscription runs out?

Thanks in advance!

I'm still digging into it myself, but you won't lose phone connectivity since that's through Bluetooth and your phone and you won't lose navigation since that's part of the radio software. You will lose the sat radio and traffic condition options that sync with the nav. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong.

Think of anything uConnect Access as anything that requires the Jeep to use data through its Sprint connection. Without it, it can still do anything that doesn't require cellular data.

And Go Tigers!

You have a 1yr trial I thought?? Doesn't seem to be anything on the UConnect website

I'm having trouble finding the site again but hte prices are

$9.99 per day
$19.99 per week
$37.99 per month

I never did find the price to make it a hot spot.

BTW this is the husband, it's supposed to be my account but if your married you know how that is LOL

I believe those are the prices for making it a hot spot.

Part of my smart phone with its $50/mo "unlimited" plan is that it can be a hot spot anywhere and not just in the heep & I can run my dash tablet, windows tablet, iPAD, and netbooks from it. I only need one check-of-the-month club for mobile & all can run off the cable wireless at home.

You really have to change the way you think about access, it should go with you and not the car.

I also have tablet mounts in all of my cars and the RV.

I'm just trying to figure out how to keep my presets under the Settings menu to stop changing. I will click on one and remove a check and then 3 seconds later the check reappears, and vice versa. Errghh

You have almost 10 months together it figured out.. People need to chill.

My Uconnect in the 2014 GC froze up several times now. I decided to reload applications and now it has been stuck on "loading". no more bing no more assist, no more 911. I called in from home phone and they said the techs would be working on it for me next week. Are others having problems with their new uconnect systems as well?

Just drove my brand new 2014 Overland back from the dealer yesterday and the UConnect froze about two hours into my 4 hour drive back home. Had to stop at a rest area and let the system reboot to get heat back into the car.
It then froze today when I had a SD card in and my iPhone connected.
This is not a good sign for me. How did you get an over the air reinstall.

Yep, my NAV screen freezes. Can't change some things under Controls like unlock all doors or just the drivers door, easy exit seat, etc. When I check or uncheck an option it will change itself back after two or three seconds. Has lost the memory seat settings for 1 and 2 twice now in three days.

I'll take it back to the dealer next week to make the FIRST of probably many complaints until they get the programming bugs out of the 8.4AN unit.

Really, there is just no excuse for this many bugs. Other than the programming bugs and the worry that I'll lose heat and AC at any minute, I love the rest of the vehicle.

My Uconnect is still broke. I did the over the air hard reset with uconnect, and that made all my apps, assist, bing, travel link and 911 disappear. I have to take it in on Monday to the dealer. He is also going to figure out why my liftgate is off on one side why it is their as well.

I don't know if this applies, but Chevyboy (works at JNAP) suggested it might not be the tailgate but in fact the bumper.

If it's like mine was, the liftgate needs to be adjusted. My dealer had a body shop adjust it to the tune of $428.00. I hope Chrysler likes paying that bill when they should have done the right thing at the assembly plant and corrected it while they were performing their "Quality Assurance Test" (what a joke) in which they also accumulated 28 miles.

<hr style="color:#AAAAAA; background-color:#AAAAAA" size="1"> The Chrysler Technician (Scott Miller) came from timbuktu to work on mine today. He was on it all day. When he left he was telling me he was unable to fix it, but a new update was coming out in the next few weeks that would fix the problems (all stemming from uconnect 8.4an) He told me that until the update came out i would have to stand on my head, do 20 hail marys and spin backwards, or the battery would still be dead each morning. Well low and behold, they convinced me to drive it home after almost 20 days in the service department. On my way home it was like a miracle occurred. All of a sudden everything that has been missing from the radio appeared. Apps were back, all of it. I'm now waiting to see if the battery will be dead tomorrow morning, but even the dash lights are cycling off properly, so i think it might actually be fixed. I've learned so much from this all that Chrysler should hire me to be an engineer. Sorry to be so lively about this stuff, but I AM TRULY AMAZED!

I'm new to Jeep. Im a former GM owner and all the phone features that I used a total of 40 times over 5 years were free. Its a shame for $50000 I cant lock the doors from my phone. Im sure Jeep is aware of our frustrations.(I cant say they care) I spoke with a Uconnect rep. today. I asked her to explain exactly what would be included with my subscprtion and she had no clue but offered to enroll me. Are any Jeep representatives reading this? Do any Jeep representatives care? Should we purchase Jeep products in the future? Should we pay for services that other auto makers are including in the purchase of the vehicle? I promise this will be made public! Jeep needs to step up!

Well, if you're coming from GM I guess you already know that their OnStar isn't free, either. I know someone with a Cadillac and they told me that OnStar wasn't worth it for the price they charge.

When you buy a new Jeep it comes with one year free SiriusXM Guardian, which includes being able to lock the doors from your phone, remote starting and more. I personally didn't think it was worth paying for it after my free subscription ran out, so I just use the fob when I'm in range.
