Let me put it this way, there has been 3 IOS (iphone) updates since the release of the 8.4AN system. Who knows what changes that might affect Bluetooth communications may have happened. I know that sounds trivial but in the CUE system in the Cadillac I tested it and it worked terrible with my RAZR HD and pretty good with an iphone (now I know what the developers tested more).... Three updates later and an update on my phone and now it works pretty good.

The 8.4AN system is trying to pack a lot of useful features into it and in the development they probably added a whole bunch of other features. In the end some of the original features don't work properly but WOW now it can do 20 things instead of 8. I do some work with some very high end commercial and residential automation manufacturers and one of the first things you need to do when installing new stuff is update the firmware. In the next few years that will be true with vehicles, just before delivery they will plug them in and check for infotainment updates because I gaurantee you by the time the first customers took delivery of these systems some fixes have already been in development.

Not a great answer but in order to get the best and latest to market first in the infotainment world it gets rushed. I don't agree with it entirely but I am also the guy who wants the new tech in my car and I might switch vehicle manufacturers to get it.... that is what the manufacturer worries about.
Having the latest tech which doesn't entirely work is not something I aspire to, nor do I imagine most customers. I really don't think most buyers give a crap about car based apps, etc. Most want reliability.

To me, the negatives of bad reviews, quality problems & pissed off customers far outweighs the "look at me, I have the latest hi tech that sometimes works" side. There is "high tech" and "why tech". Much of what doesn't work seems to fit the latter.

I'm a non IT person and not much for the endless excuses. In my office we look at things differently-- make it work, make it right, make it simple. Or find another job.

I should point out, that I did mention I don’t agree with it. Also I wouldn't want something that doesn't work anymore than the next guy.
I was just sharing a fact about touch panel and automation interfaces in general of which I have a great deal of experience. I don't think that something should be released without proper testing but I have firsthand seen 5 Million dollars of digital video routing technology be installed in institutions using touch screen interfaces that didn’t even have firmware that would work properly…. That is just one of many and a big part of my business is working through those problems with customers.
<O</O
My comment about adding features midstream rather than just making sure the base product works is just a reality of the way that these type of interfaces seem to get designed therefore I was not surprised by some of the issues…. Still not right of course as my colleagues and I agree that the public should NOT be the testing pool. So more directly, I completely agree with you and I don’t believe in cutting corners in my work either.
<O</O
There is one thing I can praise the Chrysler Group for and that is having Garmin do the Nav Interface…. I have spent many unhappy hours trying to use other manufactures brand new Nav systems with much worse failures than what I have seen in these Forums and in the current Jeep. The 8.4AN is quick and intuitive, so it does work better than most others I have worked with, but yes there is some work still needed.

Interesting picture, thanks.

I appreciate your comments. My BMW's Nav is pretty good. Hasn't screwed up on me. Still wondering what it would be like to not drive a BMW after 15 years, but I need a bit more room and can't see an X5. Got a 335xi now. If I'm to get an SUV I figure it should be a "real" one, hence the JGC. Thinking heavily of an Overland model, but not pleased with all the negatives I'm reading here.

I just got rid of my ML320 Bluetec.... it was a nice truck, had some problems but convinced me on the JGC platform that the new ML shares with it. I have been working along side dealerships of many brands for nearly 20 years. The first batch off the line (first quarter) usually has some funny stuff (BMW too). I would imagine anything after May 1st ship will be lots better.

One thing I know about Chrysler that the GM, Mercedes and some other brands can't say is that they definitely work closer with the dealer network (at least since Fiat but possibly more)

If you want negatives, keep reading here, that's what forums are for, a place for people to commiserate and find help. It's a good thing, but more than likely gives a negative slant. I'm driving my Overland and loving it. If I have a problem I'll call roadside assistance.

This is true... and happy you mention that. Someone else posted that the happy folks are out driving around and barely have time to get to post...

Re: Uconnect Access for the 2014 is a GO!!

Few updates with Uconnect features as I was on the phone with them:

In the next few months they are changing from Bing to YELP. Which I think is great, I use yelp all the time on my iphone(personal opinion) On or after 6/14.

If you look in your Jeeps now you will see the Pandora, aha, iheart and slacker app loaded on your car(picture attached). These will slowly become active on or around 6/14 as well.

That's awesome, yelp is so much more useful than bing. If they can throw in spotify integration I will start a slow clap with a tear rolling down my eye.

Re: Uconnect Access for the 2014 is a GO!!

They should also drop Sprint as the carrier with only 3G coverage but Sprint probably offered the cheapest rate.

Does the vehicle have LTE chipset to enable 4G LTE in the future? I bet they only put the 3G capability for connectivity to save $0.50. Sprint had to be the cheapest bid for the contract to provide the connectivity.
