Re: Uconnect Access for the 2014 is a GO!!

Can you use the apps through a hotspot on your phone or do you need to activate the 3G connection/account to use them?

All I know is that it won't work with the phone on the wall in my kitchen, so I don't have to worry about it.

I'm still looking for an after market 8 track player.

Once the trial offer is over possibily but I don't think so initially since you have to set up an account. I'm guessing they are wanting to be paid for all the upgraded infotainment that they have released so who knows how it will play out.

Re: Uconnect Access for the 2014 is a GO!!

The name of the game is "revenue stream". Corporate America doesn't want to sell you something, they want a recurring payment stream connected to your bank account. Uconnect is Chrysler's OnStar. It's the not so new business model, and it's working. The services offered become indispensable to many people. If you can afford them, and they serve a legitimate purpose for you, great. That recurring monthly payment becomes painless. It's a personal choice. OnStar would badger customers who wanted to cancel that they owed it to their families to have that crash response available. After a while the giant sucking sound becomes deafening. But then again, a lot of people need that sense of security. Anyway, just my humble opinion. I will now return you to your regular scheduled programming.

Re: Uconnect Access for the 2014 is a GO!!

I get the speculation that this is a revenue stream but I'm not convinced that this means the ability to tether to another device is off the table. I mean think about my LTE iPad - obviously it's a revenue stream for Verizon if I activate the cellular radio on their network but I can just as easily tether it to my iPhone and use it just fine. It's a convenience thing that I don't do it but its definitely not impossible.

Re: Uconnect Access for the 2014 is a GO!!

Don't get me wrong, Uconnect, and the associated electronics are really great. You can connect your bluetooth devices, and the hard drive can probably hold my entire music collection. It's all about choices.

Maybe that's why they did away with the hard drive.

Re: Uconnect Access for the 2014 is a GO!!

Researched if it'll play M4A files (itunes files), but appears that it'll still only play MP3 files off the SDcard. That's a huge bummer. Understandable since M4A is a proprietary files of apple's. I guess that'a another project for another night - converting thousands of songs to mp3. I feel like it's 1998 all over again.
