Re: Upgrading to '16 from a '14 - Hemi worth it?

Oh one thing I want to add to my post above that I forgot to mention. Regarding the MDS system on the V8. I actually found cylinder deactivation to be sort of annoying and it wasn't as seamless as I would have hoped. It seems to have gotten slightly more noticeable after a dealership performed a software update. I recall driving in my neighborhood to be the most annoying as you are doing several rolling turns and as you would get back into the throttle you can feel it shutter then reactivate all 8 cylinders. I know that can be turned off by pressing Eco button, but I'm enjoying the smoothness all the time now with the V6.

Re: Upgrading to '16 from a '14 - Hemi worth it?

I've driven many rental V6 GCs and Durangos.

and after that I really enjoy my 5.7L. Wouldn't get anything else.

But it's all about what YOU want and how YOU drive.

Even though the V8 msrp is $3,300. Who pays msrp? Invoice I believe is $2,700 or so. Maybe that will help?

JTS9Z28 does a fantastic job of summing it all up. I opted for the v8. Coming from a v6 I always wanted more. I didn't want regrets but the v6 was surprisingly fun. Mpg is somewhat subjective. I pay far less attention to it knowing it's a v8. I completely love that engine rumble every time I start it. Cliche but you really can't make a bad decision.

Re: Upgrading to '16 from a '14 - Hemi worth it?

I went from a '14 Overland V6 to a '15 High Altitude V8 that I now have 1,700 miles on.

The MPGs suck in the V8 but I knew that going in. We don't put a lot of miles on it (have had it 3 months) so its not a deal. I work from home office but if I had to commute I'd second guess it.

I love the sound of it! It's great. It's got a nice rumble and a lot of power.

The V6 I had was fine and had plenty power. But overall, I'm glad I went with the V8 this time.

Actually it's a lot more than "altered". More than 80% of the parts are new or re-designed, including the heads, cam, pistons, valves, intake manifold, coils, and much more.

And that's the part that sort of makes me leery about going with the new V6. I suspect I'm going to just eat it and get the V8, I've had 2 V6's now...my 2012 and my 2014. Time for something different.

So other than adding a little mpg was part of the redesigns intent so that forced induction will be an easier dropin? Drop the v8 and forced v6 pentastar falls in its place?

Whats wrong you dont want to be the beta tester on a brand new engine coupled with the 845RE trans that some people still have shift issues with after buying three year later lol. I dont blamd you a bit. My fuel door fell off and i was in getting it fixed last week and dealer had v6 and v8 2016s was going to take a v6 out for test drive but started raining, may give it a try this weekend.

No, not really willing to be a beta tester haha, at least not with something like that. I accept that anything with Jeep on the tail is going to have electrical issues, I don't want mechanical issues on top of that.

I can't remember and I can't find a confirmation online - does the '16 Hemi come with the electric power steering now?

yep, they all do now. Any vehicle can have its issues but the v8 with the 8hP70 trans has seemed to have been the least problematic combination. I have had my 2014 almost 3 years now, being one of the very early ones it has been back several times for mostly software flashes and a few other things. No drivetrain or mechanical issues though.
