Upgrading to 2014 Limited V8

I am going to trade my 2011 V6 Limited for a 14 Limited V8 because the V6,at least with the 5 speed transmission, is underpowered for the city driving I do. I don't do enough highway driving to receive the benefits of the frugal V6. Getting this 5000 pound SUV to go from stop sign to stop sign going 0 to 25 mph over and over is extremely taxing on the smaller engine. I'm currently getting 11.7 mpg. I drive about 10.000 miles a year, don't tow or off road. I have read every V6 vs V8 thread on this and other sites I could find. The professional writers have all said the difference between real world mileage is minimal with both engins because of the same reasons I've already mentioned. I know the new 8 speed transmission helps shifting points and I will test drive a 14 V 6 just to compare both transmissions. Because of the type of driving I do I believe I will enjoy the Hemi more without much or any difference in gas mileage. BTW I'm not knocking anybody else's opinion and I'm not trying to start another V8 vs V6 war.

Re: Upgrading to 2014 Limited V8

Remember the V6 with the 8 speed has performance equivalent to the old v8 with 5/6 speed. I originally wanted either an 8. Or a diesels but test drove the 6 and changed my mind. You might want to test drive one before you make up your mind.

I will test drive the V6 before I buy anything. I'm curious to experience the difference between the 5 and 8 speed transmissions.

I think you will notice quite a difference between all three of them. My first WK2 was a 2011 limited with the 6 and yea it was kinda sluggish, but I think the 2 speed transfer case made a difference also because The laredo v6 just seemed to have more pep and it had to be something in the gearing. I have the Hemi with 8 speed now, but I have driven an 8 speed V6 and that felt pretty good also. I would recommend test driving both before making a decision.

Just get the V8 and be done with it. You know you want it, and it's not that much more, so treat yourself.

I test drove a 2015 Summit V6 about a month ago and I was shocked at how much pep it had. I made a comment to the sales dude right when we pulled off the lot as I barely touched the accelerator and the machine really moved quickly. It seemed to have very quick response at both low and high speeds so I was impressed. We still own our 1999 Limited V8 and that engine was always very strong, but I think this new V6 matched to the new 8 speed tranny is quicker than our old V8 was when it was new.

I have yet to drive the Hemi or the Diesel and I will do so before I make a decision on what I may or may not get. Drive them all and pick what you like best.

Re: Upgrading to 2014 Limited V8

I want more power than the v6 delivers with the 5 speed trans. I will drive the new V6 and compare the two engines with the 8 speed trans. I will buy a slightly used WK2 and so far I see one V8 for every 20 V6's. I want to wait until I get exactly what I want. I need to be sure everything works for me, no settling. I have to go by my local dealer where I get my servicing tomorrow to straighten out the issue of me paying $150.00 deductible for a TIPM recall. I had mine replaced in September and at that time there was no official recall. I told my service advisor I have seen lots of activity about the TIPM module on Jeep Garage. I'm not sure what he thought about a customer possibly knowing more about his business than he did. Anyway he said they would return my deductible if there is an official recall. While I'm there I might as well test drive a slightly used 14 Limited with a V8 as well as a used 14 Limited V6. I have had my eye on both for a while.

Re: Upgrading to 2014 Limited V8

Even "if" you feel like the v6 is enough with the 8 speed and get it, there is a chance you may always ask yourself "if the v6 feels like this with the 8spd then what must the v8 be like with the 8spd" Just get the v8. I love mine, although I never even drove the v6 i'm glad I got the v8. Plus the transmission on the v8 is the mercedes and the v6 is the chrysler attempt.

Re: Upgrading to 2014 Limited V8

The new 8 speed tranny makes the V8 feel like a 6 in the city.
Even with 'ECO' off.

On the highway the V8 really shines . It rolls along effortlessly.

IMO. The new 8 speed transmission dulls the snappiness of the V8.

That's why they gave you Sport Mode!

Re: Upgrading to 2014 Limited V8

The V8 won me over. There were two slightly used 14 Limited in my area. Oddly the two were identical in color and options. One was sold Saturday so I had to jump on the remaining Jeep. I test drove it today as I had the day off. I was the only person looking to buy a vehicle at 10:15 am on a Monday morning. The V8 was soooooo much smoother than my V6. I had no problems with power in the V6 on the highway but I did very little highway driving. The V8 on the other hand just went faster as I depressed the gas pedal with no sign of breaking a sweat. It was effortless. It felt very strange having all that power at my disposal. I have to say I never got around to test driving the V6. I WANTED that HEMI. Thanks for all the help with opinions.
