Don't the others have a third seat?

You're right.....GC isn't a true competitor 'cause there is no third seat option...I actually wish GC had a third seat option, it would then have appeal to a whole new market of "soccer moms" who need that option.

Coming with the Grand Wagoneer in a few years. Folks who need the third row for "soccer mom" duty can opt for the Durango, which is essentially the same vehicle with the 4" extra wheelbase needed to support the third row but less off-road capability.

I think you may have misspelled that Ford has taken a good look at the Grand Cherokee offering, and in particular the prices Jeep is able to get for the Overland and Summit, and Ford is introducing two high end models to try to get some of that profit range.

Too bad the Exploder is still just a glorified mall crawler even as refreshed--a real mall crawler/offroad competitor would be expected to improve both vehicles.

They may have underbid the Durangos, as I also see Exploders as police vehicles around here. Not to mention rental car fleets.

Thats the major reason I would stay away from the Fords.

Just don't like seeing the car I'm driving with rooflights in such high volumes.

Ford makes police specific versions of the Explorer, Taurus and Fusion. Engine and drivetrains are the same, suspension i believe is different and the tuning and TCM are a little different. They still need to meet emissions though.

Chrysler let out many "Trial" Chargers to police depts. Many depth kept them as they were cheap to acquire and their officer were used to the cars.

Re: US sales mid-size SUVs

Equinoxes (and its cousins the GMC Acadia and GMC Terrain) are everywhere out here.

I rode in a friend's Equinox (I think it was a 2013) a few months ago, was not bad, but not really impressed. He bought the high end trim of it, but admitted the reason why he got one was that it was cheap. He wasn't even sure of the engine he had, he just liked the price.

I looked at it and informed he had the V6, haha. I just have no idea how someone can buy a car and not know at least the very basics, like number of cylinders.
