Usable lifetime of 2014 Grand Cherokee

Hi All

I recently purchased (not leased) a 2014 Grand Cherokee Overland w/Offroad 2 - I purchased this vehicle because I wanted to keep it a long time , as long as I could. Longer than any lease program would allow. But I was curious if anyone has any knowledge or experience with how long this Jeep would remain usable (assuming no accidents or abuse and I have the top-end extended maintenance program)

Thanks
Randy

As long as you take care of it you should be able to get at least 200k or 10yrs I would say.

Re: Usable lifetime of 2014 Grand Cherokee

I would say you could even get more mileage and years out of it than that.

Like any other vehicle you may have a major repair down the road but I think 15-20 years is entirely possible depending on your driving style and how much you drive.

I still see plenty of 15 year old Jeeps on the road and they were made back when Jeep wasn't considered the best quality.

It still isn't.

But if you get a good one, it can last a very long time. IMHO, changing fluids when the manufacturer recommends is the biggest factor. Other maintenance items should also be done on schedule to avoid problems.

Nothing is the best quality anymore. Even Toyota & Honda has taken a huge crap when it comes to the best reliability & quality/reliability doesn't always match up. Just look at Range Rovers. VERY nice quality, but they're always in the shop for something.

I would have to believe that Jeeps quality/reliability is significantly better than 15-20 years ago. It freakin' better be if I'm going to buy a new one this year or all hell is going to break loose.

Re: Usable lifetime of 2014 Grand Cherokee

Yeah I see lots of 10-15 year old Jeeps running around. 200k is very possible with modern cars if you keep it well maintained. Beyond 100k miles stuff starts to break so you end up paying the service shop instead of the bank. By 200k you usually just need a change or technology has advanced so much that the old car is out dated. Diesels can go even further if well maintained which is what I'll be attempting. As high mileage driver (25k+ year) I need to push my vehicles to 200k+ just to get a few years beyond the end of the 5 year car loan.

Re: Usable lifetime of 2014 Grand Cherokee

Heck my Heep is the only car I have that is less than 20 and the fastest passed 40 some time ago. Of course I also bought a "lifetime" warrenty that should outlast me.

If you live somewhere without rust and make repairs as needed and quickly, there is no limit as to how long a car can last. Just look at the AACA.

(Have stockpiled quite a few unique spares when cheap on the recycling market).

I think the quality mark has changed a wee bit too... as and old pal of mine said "Oh yea, good olde days when you had Leaded fuel pissin all over the place, you had to tune the engine every 15,000 miles and when you got the thing over 80 miles an hour, you hit the brakes, it would shake a little and you would hope it would coast to a stop"

Now we have tons of "special" technology to deal with so it isn't the core components failing it is a lot of times the other "stuff"

Other than that I agree... of all of the Brands I have driven, they all worked well when maintained well.
