Used 2013 vs New 14 or 15

Here is my situation. My wife and I are both tired of having 2 door cars, and with kids in the future, they arent going to be practical.

We have been looking at both new 14' and 15's, in Limited with the Luxury 2 package and 20" wheels OR the Overland editions. She doesnt want a diesel, so we are fine with going with the V6 or the HEMI. We have a boat that gets towed maybe 5 times per year.

We are leaning towards the Overland but are struggling at the idea of dropping ~45k out the door on a new Overland that will be used by kids and dogs over the next few years.

Last night i found a 2013 Overland Summit with the HEMI. Garage kept, like new condition, 6,000 miles, and they are asking 37,500.

Open to any comments, ideas, pros and cons of either, anything that will help in our decision.

Thank you guys for any help you can provide!

I would see if you can find a used 14. The upgraded trans in the 14s is worth having (imo)

Re: Used 2013 vs New 14 or 15

Definitely look for a used '14 over a '13 - 8 speed tranny starting with the '14s is great! Better yet, just do the Houston deal at 5.5% under invoice and pick up a brand new '15 GC Limited V6 for probably less than $40K. As for the kids and dogs, invest in a good shampoo/vac machine and you're good to go.

Re: Used 2013 vs New 14 or 15

Go for the '15 Overland. You can shop around and get a base v6 Overland for just a few thousand more than the 13 Overland Summit you are looking at. The '15 limited with lux 2 won't be much cheaper than a base Overland, and the Overland includes more. Build a Limited to be like an Overland, and it will cost more than an Overland.

As far as '13 Summit vs '15 Overland, is there anything the '13 Summit has that you really want and won't get with a '15 Overland? Better off getting the new car with a full bumper to bumper warranty and not worrying about where it's been.

I didn't even read your post, but if you are questioning it if you get the 13 you'll be full of nothing but regret

Price a new Altitude model. Lots of goodies, a fresh look, and save a bunch.

I have a 2013 Overland (non-Summit) with a hemi. Fantastic car, and while I wish I had the 8 speed I will note that it is still a very fast car and saving $15k (when compared to an Overland Summit with Hemi for 2015, even with the group buy) never hurts. The only concern I would have is why they are selling it after only 6k miles. Ask for the VIN and try to see if you can get info on prior history. If they're selling it because it is a lemon then you're in for a world of hurt and would be better off getting a 2015.

Re: Used 2013 vs New 14 or 15

Thanks for all the replies. The '13 has been garage kept, no accidents or anything like that, the owner said they bought it as a pleasure vehicle and it doesnt get many miles put on it.

From what im gathering the 8 speed tranny is significantly better/more refined than the older 5 speed?

Anything else stand apart between the two?

When i price a new 14 or 15 Overland, even with the group buys, its still going to be around 45k out the door. This 13 with 6,000 miles could be had for close to 10k less.

Don't forget the advanced tech package. You will still miss the hemi, the front park sensors, and the upgraded sound system of the Summit.

Re: Used 2013 vs New 14 or 15

In addition to the eight speed transmission, the '14s and '15s also have the new instrument cluster, new steering wheel and new 8.4" infotainment system. When we shopped for a new Grand Cherokee this time last year, we found a new leftover '13 Overland Hemi for $38k. After checking out the '14s, we liked the updates and even with the price difference went with a '14. Do note that with the new transmission, the '14 V6 is as quick or quicker than the '13 V8. From what I have been told, the '11-'13 V8s got low to mid teens for gas mileage. We get upper teens to 21 MPG with our '14. The V6 will get you low 20s.

If you are considering the '13 at $37,500, I would suggest looking at leftover '14s at dealers. I have seen some great deals on those, and they are identical to the '15s. My guess is that once you figure in financing and trade (if those apply) that you wouldn't be able to do on the used '13, a new '14 won't be much more than that '13.

Re: Used 2013 vs New 14 or 15

Definitely not the 13. Like all have said the upgraded tranny is excellent over the 13's. Also the 14's got the refresh so if you pay close attention 11-13 are a bit different and imho don't like em.

Id go for a 15 but i'm sure you can still snag a 14 with all the end of yr sales coming.

I'm not sure what options you choose, but the most the real world difference should be is about $5000 for a base '15 Overland. If you go with a '14, you should be able to get it within $1500. People are getting those at 6% below invoice or less.

I got a quote last week for a '15 overland 4x2 v6 with the 8.4" navigation for $42,200 out the door, not including tax and title. That was from a dealer that is usually not very competitive, so I could probably find a better deal.

I have a '13 limited v6, and overall it's great. The reason I got a quote is because right now I'm considering a lease buyout, so I'm comparing getting a new one instead. If you get the '13, you will probably love it.

I think the '14 or '15 is a better value if you can get it for the right price. Shop around, make some offers, and if you can't get a price you are comfortable with, get the '13.

The differences with the features in the new models that people mentioned are fairly significant, but if you like driving the '13 that's all that matters.
