Re: V-6 or V-8 on 2014-- Opinions

The HD (Heavy Duty) brakes come with the 5.7L V8. They saved me from a head on collision in the rain, when someone turned in front of me and stopped. I ended up stopped an inch from their front right bumper, but the brakes did the job of stopping the 5000 lb SUV in a hurry. I love driving the V8 too, and it sounds great.

I'm going with the V6.

For what I need it for (commuting, light towing eventually, and very minimal off-roading) it'll do the trick no problem.

Both the v6 and v8 brakes will stop the vehicle the same in an emergency situation. Both have the power to activate the ABS. If your brakes can activate ABS, the only variable is your rubber. This is why almost nobody actually needs an aftermarket BBK.

It's like sticking your shoe in the back tire of a bike. It'll lock up the wheel and you'll eventually skid to a stop. A $400 carbon fiber disk brake will lock up your wheel and you'll skid to a stop in the same distance.

When towing, the HD brakes (if a larger rotor) will require you to apply less pressure to the brake pedal to get the same stopping power. If thicker rotors, it's for dissipating heat to avoid fade.

You won't hate it.

A 2013 GC was out of the question for me with the v6 and the 5 speed tranny. I didn't like it at all.

The v6 with the 8 speed makes me plenty happy...and I'm coming from a ~5 second 0-60 car.

Can someone elaborate. How long have each of the engines in their current form been used in the GC? Thanks.

I'm pretty sure the Hemi first went into the 2005 GC and the V6 was new with the 2011 GC.

John,

I owe you an apology. When you first asked I thought you were trying to make a point. Sorry man.

Re: V-6 or V-8 on 2014-- Opinions

My 2001 BMW 540i was a V8 rated for 14 city/21 highway/16 combined and I could get 26-27 mpg from Long Island to Boston and back. I am wondering if anyone has gotten or thinks they could get over the rated MPG's with the JGC V8?

Going from Dover to Long Island next week. I'll see what happens, with only a few hundred miles on it.
