Re: V-6 or V-8 on 2014-- Opinions

It's not just 6 vs 8. Sno mentioned the TrailBlazer. The straight 6 in the TrailBlazer had such a flat torque curve, and IIRC produced 90% of its 275 lbs/ft by 1900 rpms, it was a perfect tow vehicle. I had 2 of them and never wanted for more power. The V6 in my Blazer was a pig.

My first impressions with the Jeep is that it is less responsive than the MDX. This might change with a few more miles on it. But, once it responds it's like a rocket. I still think if they left the 3.45 rear with the Hemi, it would be a killer.

I have fulfilled a childhood wish of owning a Hemi ... so all is good.

The v8 is not the clear choice. It depends on your needs. I never once considered the v8 because I put on 15-20k miles per year and don't tow anything heavier than 4k pounds.

I didn't buy a 2013 because of the 5 speed tranny and I couldn't be happier with the v6 and the 8 speed.

Tranny shift points are only extremely low with eco mode on. With eco mode off, shift points are great. Only to get better as the transmission learns your style (It's in the manual. All modern transmissions learn)

Did you try the 2013 5 speed first? This will be the decision I will have to make in the next month.

Not with the Trinity Hemifevertuning.com tune it's not. I can't speak highly enough about this tune for our Jeeps. The 2014 guys will not be able to tune their Hemis for quite a while.

...and forget tuning the V6. You can't even do that for a 2011 up.

V6 is better for everything

Hemi is old tech big bore but not enough torque for hemi size engine

If I cared about tuning the v6, I would have bought the v8.

Re: V-6 or V-8 on 2014-- Opinions

I took a 2014 GC with the V6 for a test drive yesterday and I thought it drover very nice. Throttle response was just as good or better than my 02 GC with the 4.7. I don't tow anything so I may go with the V6.

V6 hands down. The hemi sucks gas as bad as my much heavier/ bigger Expedition. I'm done with $100/ week gas bills.

It all depends on what "real world" gas mileage you are getting. On my 2012 V6 JGC I averaged about 19.5mpg combined. With the V8 - 17.5. For my mileage that averages out to about $30 more a month. To me, $30 more a month is totally worth the much more spirited driving experience and being totally satisfied with my expensive purchase. For others, it might not matter at all.

To each their own
