I enjoy the spirited driving and the rumble of the V8 in my Jeep. It makes it easy to get away from the d-bag tailgaters too.

[QUOTE=Uncle Paul;789892]

No need to go under the car to replace the v-6 oil filter. No mess, as it is right on the top forward of the engine.

But you still have to go under to remove the drain plug.

If it wouldn't cost 8k to get it this might work.

Wow! Didn't know feelings ran so high on this subject. As one who has never driven let alone owned a V6 or V8 (i did have a V4 Ford in the 1970s !) I am very interested in your respective views. I will be test driving both in 3 weeks time when I arrive in US from UK to live.
Think the V6 sounds as it will meet my needs. (Smooth, comfortable and good mid range pulling power) but will be very interested in sampling V8.

Krisw123, welcome to the States, and to Colorado. You're in for a treat.

As many note, individual preferences and driving conditions will dictate this issue. Your plan to test drive is correct.

If possible, make sure your test drive includes mountain driving gains up to high altitude. While many here use the V6 happily, elevation reduces HP by roughly 3% for every 1,000' elevation gain. We frequently drive from Denver at 5,280' up to 11,000' for both winter and summer, typically with gear and passengers. I also like spirited driving and tow a boat or camper several times a season.

To us, the Hemi is best suited to these conditions and preferences, and is the most balanced powerplant for a 5k pound SUV that gets used as an SUV.

YMMV.

I laugh every time I read about the superior technology of the V6.

It sounds like some haven't heard that the Hemi traded in its 4bbl a year or two back, and , at least on the '14, you no longer have to change the two sets of points every 5000 miles. Getting out to crank it to get it started will soon be a thing of the past.

This ain't your grandpa's Hemi .

Congratulations of getting that figured out.

Actually, I was referring to the DOHC arrangement, dual variable valve timing to achieve a flat torque curve and excellent idle quality, internal oil cooler, two stage oil pump, canister-free oil filter, 20# weight savings in aluminum over competing V6 blocks (achieving 51-49 weight distribution in the Grand Cherokee), and other stuff.

Oh, and this might shock you: no pushrods.

This happens every time some brings up a V6 or V8 thread.

It's kind of like sitting at a bar (that's pub to you) with colleagues talking about some new innovation that y'all (that's 'all of you') are working on, and a nearby drunk juts into the conversation and says 'oh yeah, well I got a bigger dick".

Enjoy your new level of freedom from the UK. After you buy a house, then your new Jeep, you will then be allowed to purchase guns to protect them.

This "drunk" you refer to would follow that up with something like "and it's stronger, provides much more pleasure, and has the ability to handle many positions". Even though this person is drunk, he's still intelligent and speaks the truth.

This technology you constantly speak of provides no tangible benefit....other than gas mileage....and that's only marginally better. You act as though we're comparing a basic cell phone to a smartphone. Silly!

And yes, I still giggle a bit when I think about a man being proud of his V6 Mustang.
