Hey everyone, I just got back from a long trip with a thule cargo box on my roof and managed to get 800 Km between fill ups. I was pretty happy with this considering people were telling me that the thule would kill my mileage.
My wife and I are traveling across Canada and back this summer and have been looking at camping trailers to make the trip a bit more comfortable. After much thought we've decided a tent trailer would best suite our needs and would allow for better gas mileage as it shouldn't create as much wind drag as a larger camper. We made an offer on a 2008 Fleetwood Evolution 1 tent trailer and may take possession this week. I'm having problems finding out how this trailer will affect my mileage. Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated.
Did you take delivery of the camper? If so, how did the V6 handle towing it?
We have a 2004 Jayco pop-up (dry weight 1900 lb, GVWR 2700 lb) and I'm wondering how well our Jeep will do. We previously towed the camper with a 2001 Toyota Highlander V6 which handled it OK but it wasn't as stable as I would have liked.
I have at 19 foot travel trailer that weights 3600 lbs. On my first trip I averaged 12 mpg. You should average higher with the lower drag force and weight of a tent trailer. The handling is good, but I have a weight distribution hitch, anti-sway kit, and trailer brakes on dual axles.
