When ordering the v8 you don't only get the v8, but also the HD brakes and the upgraded transmission. Do you really need the v8? No. You get it because you can.

That being said, the overall handling feel of the v6 Overland is superior. The engine is adequate for the jeep and, with the dual exhaust, sounds much better than other competitor's v6. The weight does make a difference in the day to day commute. I read that braking distance is reduced by 10-20 ft, probably due to less weight. So, compared to the 2014 Hemi, my 2015 is smoother, has the better stereo (H/K w/ BluRay DVD) and burns less gas.
Well said and pretty much exactly how I feel having owned both. However, unless the changes to the V8 on the new 2016 models changes how it feels and handles to more closely feel like the V6, then I'm still not so sure I could get back into the V8 just because of how much better I think the V6 drives and handles. I have a feeling that the electric steering on the V8 can really make a difference as that was one thing I loved about the V6. I bet a 2016 High Altitude V8 with the sportier air suspension and electric steering drives pretty damn nice. Only issue for some is now the V6 has an even bigger gap on fuel economy over the V8. Sure gas prices are dirt cheap now, but people still always closely watch their mpg page on the dash. Either way I think both are an outstanding option depending on what you need.

LOL. We definitely feel the same way. I still haven't tried the ecodiesel; I'm afraid I would like it so much I end up trading again and I just can't do it.

I traded my Hemi when I changed jobs and ended up travelling more and spending $400 in gas a month; this was in Aug 2014 or exactly about a month before gas prices started plummeting. I should have kept my Hemi; specially after I put about $3.5k in a stereo upgrade. In any case, during my venture, I got into a VW GLI Jetta, a Mazda CX-5 GT AWD, and a Kia Sorento SX AWD in a 3 month span. I kept the Kia until a couple of weeks ago that I was able to get my Jeep back.

I really missed my JGC Overland; I am so happy now, even if I don't have the Hemi. The Pentastar JGC is better than 90% SUVs out there.
