V6 laredo towing

Quick question; I'm planning to drive from Orlando to Atlanta with my jeep towing a 6 x 12 Uhaul trailer with my sisters stuff (full bed, book case and two or four random items) should not be a heavy haul.

This would be the first time towing for such a long distance for me, and the first time towing anything with my Laredo.

I have installed a Curl class IV hitch for up to 7000 lbs. i still need to install wiring and get a drop ball.

What suggestions you have for me, wiring at dealer or Uhaul? Im not pushing the Jeep to hard would i?

Should be ok on the weight for pulling with the truck. UHaul usually does a good job with wiring or hitches. Make sure the tongue of the trailer is level with the truck. This can be adjusted with a hitch that has adjustable ball height. Some states require trailer brakes over 2k towing weight. In that case you would need the 8 pin connector and a electronic trailer brake installed in your truck. If your GC looks sacked out at the rear with trailer attached, slow down because front end will be light. Or use this as a reason to get air suspension.

You might need to use the paddle shifters if descending a steep hill and I wouldn't use eco mode in town towing. Don't drive faster than you need to. I can cruise at 65 towing a 30 foot camper behind Ram, but the GC isn't a Ram. If high side wind slow down.

I disagree. If that's the case, redistribute the weight before you hit the road.

Good point Bill. Better to get the towing set up correctly than just slowing due to an unsafe condition. I might have said, if the trailer/Jeep are not both level when the trailer is on the hitch, redistribute the weight in the trailer/Jeep to achieve a level condition.

He would require a 7 pin connector for the wiring if brakes are reqyited, not 8. (In case he asks for it and they scratch their heads) my other question is would they have electric brakes on a trailer like that or surge brakes? That would be the thing to ask. Honestly I would get the 7 pin installed that way you are future proofed anyways. If it were me I would ask for something with brakes either way because I didn't feel to confident in our Jeep's brakes with 32 or so behind it with no brakes. Your problem with having u haul install the wiring is you have to take it to the dealer to have the computer flashed to enable the blinkers, so you will have to weigh that cost in there too.

It's a UHaul utility trailer. I doubt it would have electric brakes. If it does, U-Haul has temporary hook ups for 'almost' every situation.

Likely no issue hauling household goods like that. UHaul usually has surge brakes when they are needed, so only 4-pin wiring required.

Please note (OP) that just because the hitch receiver you installed is rated for 7000 lbs, your Jeep is not rated for towing that high, especially since you don't have factory towing. Check your manual specifications. With factory tow on a MY14, it would be 6200 lbs max for a V6, but it's quite a bit less without factory tow.

It will have surge brakes and a pretty safe max weight for the Jeep.

I believe anything with surge brakes has a 5 pin connector, the extra being the reverse lights to disable the surge brakes, but not all have this.

I never thought about what happens in reverse. What does the extra wire activate that can deactivate the plunger?

I have a aftermarket hitch on my non tow package 13 with the V6 and towed the same 6x12 without a problem. Max you can tow is 3500lbs.
