Re: V6 oil change interval

I typically do it around 6k but this last one was around 7k with 10% life left. Done at the dealer with normal oil. No issues.

Re: V6 oil change interval

Synthetic, 5000 miles or 25% oil life left, whichever one is more protective of the engine.

Re: V6 oil change interval

hmm ill say 25% oil life left is more protective because synthetic or 5k miles could have been beat to shit and run like hell on a racetrack at 5000 rpms the whole time and be spent. 25% factors that all in and says you still got 25%

Re: V6 oil change interval

Well not really, because if % oil depreciation and mileage are linearly correlated I will most definitely not hit 25% at 5,000 miles. I am at 47% and have another 900 miles to go.

No no good point - it made look back. So...since I started taking photographic records, which was 3 oil changes into the ownership,

2013-12-26 @ 11% life left @ 3568 miles since reset (mileage 9,194)
2014-10-15 @ 26% life left @ 5,423 miles since reset (mileage 14,617)
2015-06-27 @ 29% life left @ 5,037 miles since reset (mileage 19,529)

Seems that the oil life has increased, which is expected as by now the engine is fully "broken in".

And prior to the 2013-12-26 oil change, the previous one was after my Wyoming trip at 5,500 miles. I think I did the oil change the 3rd day after i got back.

One of either criteria will be more protective and I think for the time being it is the mileage, I suspect largely due to my wife driving it.

Re: V6 oil change interval

12 months or every 8000 km in accordance with a regular scheduled oil change whichever comes first. I ran mine down to 6% left before oil change was performed and it was almost exactly 8000 km's. I added synthetic this time due to the fact I plan to tow a trailer around a lot this summer.

Re: V6 oil change interval

Might be a dumb question, but how do you reset the oil monitor. My dealer forgot to do it and I don't have the time to run it back. I was told to push the start button for accessory on, press the accelerator down 3 times, then start it. Doesn't work though

Ignition must be in the RUN position and you slowly press and slowly release the pedal 3X. It's very choosy about pressing AND releasing and the right speed.

Re: V6 oil change interval

First one done at 1700, as mine was a leftover and probably many short starts from sitting around the dealers lot. I try to keep between 5K and 7K for oil changes, running synthetic blend but will probably switch to full syn an then go every 10K. Most of my driving is highway, some occasional towing, but very little stop and go

Re: V6 oil change interval

I live close to work, and ride my motorcycle a lot when the weather cooperates. As a result, I tend not to put very many miles on per year.

As a result, I ignore everything and just take it in twice a year: Spring and Fall.

While it's more often than needed, it's cheap engine protection insurance for all the short runs and sitting the Jeep does.

To add... I believe the 3 presses of the pedal must be done within 10 seconds.
