V6 oil change interval

How often are you guys changing oil for your Pentastars? I'm at about 6k with conventional oil and am nervous about pushing it much further. The car is 90% highway coasting if that matters. The manual says 10k but that seems excessive.

Re: V6 oil change interval

First change at 3500 miles then go by the dash guage.

Do you let it go down to zero percent? I should've stated before, it's not my first oil change I did one at 1k, than a free one at dealer at 5k, now I'm at 11k.

I have a 2014 and it has 50K miles on it...I used to let it run at least 5-6K miles inbetween oil changes...I ended up supercharging my 3.6L about 15K miles ago and now use royal purple oil which is supposed to be good for ~12-13K miles.

the oil change gauge doesn't really take actual oil conditions into account I believe and is only based on mileage.

Go off the oil monitor starting with your first change. If anybody says anything else it's just their own opinion based on who knows what.

10k Miles, One Year or when the EVIC tells you to change it--which ever comes first--is the manufacturer recommendation for MY14+ for oil changes.

Re: V6 oil change interval

I wait until 10% which is typically around the 8000-8500 mile range for me. I drive 30K a year at about 70% highway. I've gone to nearly 10K one time and the oil indicated at 4%. Cut it a little close for my liking.

All changes done at dealership. No issues and no leaks.

This is incorrect - the oil monitor takes into account many factors including engine coolant temps, number of starts/stops, RPM's, duration of trips, outside temps, etc. It uses a fairly sophisticated algorithm to estimate oil life %. That's why someone who has many short trips in cold weather will see it count down much faster than someone who takes long trips in warmer weather.

Do you know if the algorithm can account for oil type though?

Synthetic vs non synthetic?

No it cannot tell the difference - it's programmed assuming oil meeting minimum Chrysler specs. That's why those of us using synthetic oil can use it as a conservative guide for when it's best to change.

2012 model here.
First oil change at 6k (OEM oil) and every 8k since then (synthetic).

Usually 10 - 15%.
