Re: V6 or Hemi

Decisions, decisions..... I still have time to wait. Let's see if someone with a Hemi in a newer model will post their mileage.

Re: V6 or Hemi

I really think the new V6 will be much more efficient than the Hemi. If mileage is important to you, I would choose the new V6.

I want the best of both. More horsepower and better fuel mileage

Re: V6 or Hemi

Remember to look past the horsepower numbers, especially with these pig weights we have to deal with. It's torque you're interested in and esp. offroad and if you plan to ever carry a lot of gear/accessories, etc. A 6 cylinder lacks the displacement to generate torque numbers like a V8 and your torque curve will be much higher rpm range in the smaller engine, to produce similar power...What cruise rpm do we have? Say 1500-2000 rpms; how much more power do you think the hemi will have vs. the V6 in that range? At that point, your mileage will be similar, as it'll take the same 'x' power to maintain speed, apples to apples (cd, weight, gearing, etc.), being the V6 has to work harder to keep the same power there. I'm sure there is a magic area where it does better, but I'm talking overall.

Also, you said you wanted to go wheeling? IMO, a big consideration will be which 4WD system is available? for me it had to be QDII and was only available in V8 for mine (2005), as far as I know. However, I would've gotten largest V8 anyway Besides, when I buy a vehicle, if there was something desirable that I missed out on, I'd be kicking myself everytime I have to make those payments and esp. after that 6 month honeymoon period, lol.

Re: V6 or Hemi

I'm getting 15 around town, but it only has 1600 miles on it, so maybe it will get better as it "breaks in".

Re: V6 or Hemi

My 3.7 can get up and go with most of the cars out there now. By no means is it a HEMI but I can live with it. But now I have 215hp but the new v6 with 280 hp and more mpg's sounds pretty good. I sav v6 unless power is really important to you. You never know if or when gas will shoot up around $4.50 a gal again.

Re: V6 or Hemi

This will be my every day driver. I don't plan on taking it off road or anything crazy like that. With almost 300hp with a V6 that is actually more than I have with my 4.7 now. Yep you never now about gas prices and how high they will go.

Re: V6 or Hemi

So, it's simple, if you're not towing or carrying heavy loads, the V6 will be fine for you. It will be the most fuel efficient (by some margin in the "real world" I believe), and will have ample power.
The V8 is for idiots and hoons. Like me

I have had four jeeps and all with v8's for that extra power. I plan on the V6 but might change my mind when I drive both. I love that feeling when you slam it to the floor

Thanks for everyone's input. I see most people here love the power of the bigger engines.
