Re: V8s- Which gas do you use?

All the Shell grades here have "up to 10%Ethanol". Premium 93 would be great if the PCM was tuned for it, but the stock tune is "maxed out" for best performance with 89, so premium is definitely not necessary.

Well...it will drain your bank account sooner and doesn't really provide any benefit to the engine per the manufacturer...

Higher octane is normally used with higher compression engines to prevent pre-detonation of the fuel...it burns slower and is less likely to ignite early and before the spark plus asks it to do so.

Don't buy into the marketing of the premium octane gas pump having flashing lights saying power or better gas or whatever. its only better if you have a higher compression engine that can make use of those couple octane points you are buying, its the same gas otherwise, same additives, same detergent just more octane. only other thing to watch out for is if a different grade may or may not contain ethanol, the less the better on that.

Exactly! So many people get sucked into the marketing hype that claims more power, and better mileage. It's pure BS that the marketing people like to put out there.
