Vehicle Battery

So I was reading the owners manual and it stated that the battery is under the front passenger seat. Really baffled me. Looked under the seat and don't see anything except what appears to be a removable panel on the floor. Looked from beneath the vehicle and don't see where there is much room for a battery below the seat.

Any clue what type of battery this is? Don't want to try to open the under seat compartment as there is very little room.

From what I understand, you move the passenger seat as far forward as possible to gain access to the compartment...

Correct. The panel pops right off to give access to the battery compartment.

Re: Vehicle Battery

What ever happen to placing it right in the engine bay. I haven't seen a 5.7L WK2 engine bay but I know the V6 has room for it.

Re: Vehicle Battery

Batteries that hang out in the engine compartment have a harsh life due to the temperature extremes and vibration. In theory, putting the battery in the passenger compartment should lengthen the life of the battery. We will see.

Since the WK2 was developed when Mercedes and Chrysler were partners, I'm sure the german designers had some influence and decided to place it under the seat for a bit better weight distribution. I bet the new Mercedes ML also has the battery in the same location.

Re: Vehicle Battery

My 2005 "C" had the battery in the trunk next to the spare tire. Also had a 1990 Miata that had it in the trunk. Allegedly, both were put there for balance purposes.
