Re: very tempted to trade for Hemi

If yoo are getting beat by pirius and smart cars with the v-6 get the Hemi. I got a Hemi in my 05 love it, I drove a 4.0l 6 in my WJ and had to mod the hell out of it to make it fast. So I knew a V6 grand cherokee was not for me.

Re: very tempted to trade for Hemi

Although I have a Hemi, I think the V6 is a decent offering albeit currently geared for geezers (I don't mean you, GEEZ). Regarding first-year vehicles though....
We had a 4th-year-run BMW 740i that had numerous issues as did every BMW we ever owned. No mas. However, in comparison we have owned multiple first-year vehicles from various makes with zero issues including cars from Mercedes and Audi. I'm sure we've all heard Mercedes and Audi are "problematic" too, but not for us. So, just because it's a first year vehicle doesn't automatically mean we should expect to have issues. My WK2 has been perfect after thousands of miles, FWIW.

It's personal preference. Because somebody prefers the V-8 does not mean that the V-6 is unsuitable. This is thus far the first time we've seen anybody who bought the V-6 experience buyer's remorse. But given as much whining as there's been lately, I can't say I'm surprised.
Anyone suggesting the V6 is pointless is evidently a moron, because the sales figures say otherwise!

Re: very tempted to trade for Hemi

I traded my Hemi Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.7 V-8 for the new V-6 in the JGC because one of the biggest reasons was fuel economy. I tracked all of my fuel purchases for the last year with my Hemi spending a whopping $4900 for the year averaging 13.3 MPG for 87 fill ups. As to date I've had 9 fill ups in my Jeep and am averaging 18.2 MPG. And with fuel prices that keeping soaring, the big difference between both engines is gonna be in the wallet! If your loaded with all kind of $$$$ go for the Hemi but if your not, the V-6 is definitely will be worth it in the long run!!

Re: very tempted to trade for Hemi

Just to clairfy, I wouldn't just be trading just to get the bigger engine. It's just I don't think I want to hang onto this jeep that has had half the drivetrain replaced. So if I am going to trade I am getting the Hemi no doubt about it. Usually when I buy a new vehicle I know exactly what I want and I am very happy with it. When I bought this one I made the mistake of listening to other people talk me into going with the 6 because of fuel cost. That was a mistake I should have just gone with what I knew was the best choice and got the right engine. That last grand cherokee I owned was an 06 and it had the hemi and I loved the power.

The V-6 is pointless!.. I kid .. I kid!

I had a V-6 on my original order and I fully agree, both engines are nice and it is completely up to need and personal choice.

Sounds like you should have gone for a longer test drive. All 3 cars that I made the choice on getting, I always put about 30-40 miles on the car (or the car just like it) before I pull the trigger on it. I want to make sure that what ever car that I'm buying is the right car for me. I don't really see the engine being a problem with the car. I went from a peppy 4 door sedan to the 3.7L. Its just a adjustment that I was over in a matter of weeks. I do make jokes about my engine but at the end of it, its a SUV. I can pass people when I needed to, and I even was able to beat two cars that tried to block me from passing them. I'm happy with it.

I was lucky enough (depends on what you call lucky) to have a V6 WK2 for 2-3 weeks. I'm almost sure that the WK had no TSB work done on it and felt that the drivetrain was great. I didn't hear any noises and the only real problem that I had was the fact that the power wasn't there when I needed..... it was due to lack of engine power, and I found out that if I just shift the gear down myself before I needed the power then I was fine. I mainly had that problem when I was trying to pass someone on a 2 way country road. Most of the problems that the WK2 owners are talking about, I never saw it in that car. Maybe I just had a car that was lucky enough to not have any problems or maybe I didn't spend too much time in it to have the problems form.

Re: very tempted to trade for Hemi

People, you are missing the point. I dont think jp467 wanted to know what you think. He (or she, sorry) is just letting us know what he thinks. He should have had a V8! Not for everyone but it is for him
