VIN help

Hi guys, I have leased a 2011 JGC Laredo X package and put the deposit down over 2 weeks ago. I live in the NY area and every time I call my sales lady up she says Jeep has the car locked up in some red tape and it's still sitting at the Jersey port. This is really starting to piss me off and am starting to think that they sold my car to another person and they're just having me wait since I already put a deposit down. Well, today I get a call from her and she says my car finally arrived and I can pick it up tomorrow. The only thing is that the VIN that she put down on the papers she gave me is the wrong one and it belongs to a Limited. This was a mistake on her part she says but rest assured the car that belongs to me will be there ready for me to pick it up tomorrow.

Am I being a little crazy here? I mean as long as the car I'm getting is the exact same model I wanted, it shouldn't matter what the VIN is right? Also, can anyone on here tell me what the exact model of the JGC is from the VIN number? I can post the VIN here and you can tell me what it really is? If for nothing else other than to catch her in a lie?

Thanks in advance guys.

Re: VIN help

Thx a bunch Cperez.

Wow, so she really wasn't lying. The VIN on my paperwork really does belong to a V8 Limited!

Ok so one last price related question. As I said before, I got a V6 JGC 4WD Laredo X package with Nav, 15k/year milage for $490/month (36 month lease) and $3700 down (this includes everything). Does this look like a decent deal?

Re: VIN help

IMHO in todays market no lease is a good deal due to the residuals there really is no benefit.

Re: VIN help

^^^+2 I have leased my rides for over ten years. Last one in fall of 07...residuals were ridiculous....payments on $57,000 was $488.++ You can't find deals like that now a days. Yours is NOT OK but it is your ride and your decision.

Re: VIN help

Residuals are ridiculous only if you plan on buying the car at the end of the lease term, no?

In my case, just the opposite. That is the only way they talked me into such an expensive vehicle for 39 months.

Re: VIN help

With Tread Lightly discount you would be at $34,400 (1% below invoice). If you can afford an additional $140/month you can finance it for 60 months. Or if you could put an additional 2k down you could get it for $590/month.

Who knows what the truck will be worth in 3 years. Rule of thumb is half of MSRP at 36 months. By that time you'll have made $21k in payments. You'll still owe $14k. You might have equity, you might not. Either way, you'll own it and won't have to worry about mileage overage or wear and tear.

Re: VIN help

I don't understand the point of leasing a vehicle unless it is for business purposes.

Credit for the VIN decoder and everything else at wk2jeeps.com (and its sister sites) has to go to resident forum guru Milous. That is his baby and an incredible resource.

Re leasing, I thought that this analysis of the lease vs buy decision was one of the best, most thorough, and most objective I've ever seen:

http://www.leaseguide.com/lease03.htm

I have both bought and leased cars and timing is a big factor for me. I disagree that leasing is only for business vehicles, though I have run numerous leased vehicles through my companies. There are some good reasons to consider a lease over a purchase, and vice versa. No one can or should make that call for you with blanket statements. The key is to go in with your eyes wide open and realize that for each benefit of the two approaches, there are also compromises.

I plan on buying my WK2 (or whatever I wind up with as my next vehicle) because in a few years my son will start driving and I want to plan ahead for some gently used inventory for him to take over (back to the timing factor). But I also enjoy driving new vehicles, so I can see me leasing again in future years. For those who like to drive vehicles till the wheels fall off, that would make no sense. But that's their issue.

Re: VIN help

I've always preferred leasing. I know it's not necessarily the best value, but the benefits to me (subjective, I know) are:

- I get to drive a new vehicle every 2-3 years
- I never have to sell a vehicle (I hate selling cars... awful past experiences)
- I always know what my monthly payment is (I'd rather know exactly how much I'm paying for the vehicle per month, than be surprised by an out of warranty, big ticket expense)
