Volant CAI... your experience

I decided to take the plunge and begin the mods on my WK2. Iíve ordered the Gibson Exhaust and this morning purchased the Volant CAI. Having read all the threads on CAIís and members thoughts/opinions of the many array of intakes to choose from, I settled on the Volant.
What I am trying to get as a solid answer is the following:
- Does the Volant have that ďsucking air/vacuumĒ sound? Does the heat shield it comes with help alleviate that?
- In terms of install, is it pretty much just plug and play?
- What are things I should look out for?
- Is the filter oiled or dry?

I have always had K&N CAIís in my SUVís and trucks, and loved them but the WK2 application just looked cheap and didnít look to offer much insulation from the engine compartment. Moparís CAI is overpriced for what it all offers and comes with. Airaid I love (had it in my 5.0 Mustang) but I didnít like how it kept the stock tubing and silencer in place.
By the way; DiscountAutoPerformance is offering the Volant CAI for 5.7 Wk2's for $218. In case any of you are looking for one.

I have it and so far I'm pleased. It does give that characteristic sound but may be muffled a little by the shield in comparison to other vehicles and CAI's I've had over the years. Install takes less than 30 minutes and the filter is dry. Overall quality and fitment is great and the heat shield matches the engine cover nicely.

Edit: An install tip I can make is make sure the screw head for the filter clamp is accessible through the cold air inlet vent from the hood . The clamp on mine came loose after about 1k miles and I had to nearly take it all apart to re-tighten it.

Re: Volant CAI... your experience

I recently installed the Volante and here are my answers to your questions.

1. The Volante has the sound you are referring to but only under load. At cruising speed it is hardly noticeable.

2. It is a very easy install just make sure to use one of the OE original rubber gaskets on the bottom location of the Volante.

3. Nothing other than the rubber on the bottom of the air box referenced in question # 2.

4. The Volante is available with either type of filter.

Thanks Guys!

@HYTECK: I completely understand what you mean by properly lining up the clamps. I've had several cars in which it was a complete PITA to adjust because of the location of the clamps.

Re: Volant CAI... your experience

So far so good!

The fit and finish on the Volant Kit was very good.

Make sure you reuse & install the OEM rubber grommet from the OEM air box on the bottom of the Volant filter case to keep the unit off the brake lines found there.

Definately go for the extra dollars and get the "dry" Donaldson power core air filter with the CAI kit. It's a much better filter that doesn't need to be cleaned or maintained (100K miles replacement interval) and will not allow extra dirt into your engine.
