A rotary buffer or orbital buffer is needed to use these Menzerna paint correction polishing products. Not sure if links to other sites is allowed here but you can learn everything about proper detailing/polishing techniques from www.autopia.org

Hope this helps.

Absolutely do diminished value. A lot of people don't look into this and then they're stuck holding the bag when they go to trade it in or sell it to an astute third party.

Sorry for your bad luck. Take it to a great shop and you'll forget about it before you know it. I got a rock to the windshield with 90 miles. Had it replaced with Mopar glass a couple days later and it's as good as new again. Doesn't matter if it is a Jeep or a Bugatti Veyron, if it drives on the road, s#!ts going to happen to it.

Re: Want to CRY with me?

Any time you go thru your insurance on a major repair, this gets reported to Carfax. Also anytime a dealer has to do major work, it will generate a report.

Diminished value is going to take you some work. You have to find a dealer that is willing to quote you 2 different values. It is then up to you to battle with the insurance company.

Good luck!

Re: Want to CRY with me?

personally...I have filed 2 diminished value claims and been paid. i dont think this is a case to get very much. It looks like they just refinished the hood...correct? Most DV cases are for frame damage or major paint work...JMO

Re: Want to CRY with me?

^^^ I think the diminished value stuff was about the GC that was backed into by the young lady.....not about the thread author.

Basically, in this situation, diminished value is the difference in price between the exact same vehicle that was never damaged and a vehicle that had been damaged and repaired. Most people will pay a bit less for a vehicle that had been damaged and repaired (even if properly repaired) than a vehicle that had never been damaged in the first place. Usually this is only an issue if the vehicle had been in a wreck or a bad wreck...the concern is that the repair might not have uncovered all the issues or that the repair never makes the vehicle as if it had never been damaged. Really it depends on what was damaged....

Re: Want to CRY with me?

Any information on how you calculated the diminished value would be appreciated. I have been told to document the difference in price but the only thing I can find is KBB difference between Excellent and Good (or Fair). Is that a reasonable amount to ask for? Thanks! Meg

Re: Want to CRY with me?

Join the club. I parked my WK2 in the street right in front of my house during the cleanup of the last 24" big snowstorm we had (roads were narrow due to all the plowed snow) and low and behold the next day I noticed a scratch and dent on my drievrs side door. The dent wasn't there prior to me parking in that spot so I know for sure it was my neighbor backing out of his driveway (or a visitor like his son who I noticed happened to be visiting recently) which was directly accross from where my Jeep was parked. I had it parked there for only a couple of hours at most. I'm thinking it was his son who owns a Jeep Liberty which has the tire attached to the hatch with a cover....that might explain the high dent location on my door that seems to be pushed in and without a scratch in the dent itself....scratch only to the right of the dent. Of course nobody left a note....damn bastards!
