Want to tow new 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited
Hello, all. I am new to this forum. I have just purchased my third jeep, a ECODiesel version. I am a motorhome owner, and have towed each of my other two jeeps, first a 1994 Wrangler and a 2000 Grand Cherokee Limited, using a Sterling tow bar on the latter Jeep. No problems thus far. I had quadratrack II on the 2000 model. It had a mechanical transfer shift shaft. It gave a tactile feedback when shifting in and out of neutral. The transmission shift was also reassuring when engaging from neutral to park, and through the gears.
The new 2014 has a tiny little button to shift the transfer case in and out of neutral. The instructions are very involved. I have practiced shifting in and out of neutral (transfer case). Only surprise I had was that when shifting back into 4wd from neutral is that there is a "chagunk" feel and sound at the same time that the red light goes off. I hope that is normal.
Also on the 2000 GCL was a key for the steering column which was required to be in accessory position to enable the front wheels to track with the motorhome on turns. The 2014 (I hope) doesn't have the steered front wheels to lock in place, and therefore does not require special setting while being towed. This is the main question I would like to have answered. We are having a base plate installed later this week in preparation for a trip planned for next week. I also am acquiring a new tow bar capable to towing 10,000 lbs.
Any and all responses will be greatly appreciated.
