Warranty Service from a Different Dealer

Just curious on a warranty issue.
For those of you that bought your Jeep Grand Cherokee from a dealer far from where you live; cause they offered way better discounts than your local dealer, do you ever have your local dealer wanting to deny a warranty repair cause you did not buy from them?

They are not aloud to do that, if you bought the Chrysler service contract not a third party. Any jeep dealer has to honor it and if they don't call jeep corporate and get them to lit a fire under that dealer.

If you are shopping try Ziegler on line they often beat some dealers by several hundered if nnot more. I have seen dealers try to charge $3900 for the same maxcare plan that Ziegler offered for $2165. $2165 was the Ziegler price when I was buying two years ago it has gone up some since then

I buy all my Jeeps in Oak Lawn, Illinois due to much better pricing and I live in Iowa City, IA where I have had all of them serviced. I have never had a problem with the local dealer taking care of warranty service for me. They have asked a few times why I don't buy from them and I am honest and tell them that their sales staff was not willing to work with me on pricing so I take my purchases elsewhere. I always order my Jeeps how I want them and the local dealer will not budge from MSRP on a customer ordered Jeep which I find absurd. The dealer in Oak Lawn, IL will drop below invoice every single time I order one from them. The local dealer understands and appreciates my honesty and they still take great care of me with warranty work.

They make a lot doing warranty work and it's paid for by corporate not the dealer so you should never have an issue. I've found the dealer I've bought vehicles from more willing to mark something as a warranty issue when it's debatable. I've also brought my acura (prior suv) to my local dealer for a boat load of warranty work and they did it all happily and without a problem even though I bought it elsewhere. Generally no loaner was the only 'penalty'.

Jeep sales have been on fire. There are shortages of qualified mechanics in some areas. As a result, there are some dealers restricting service to only vehicles sold by them. I've also had dealers just throw a fit because I didn't buy from them and refuse service because I guess they don't need the money.

Re: Warranty Service from a Different Dealer

If any dealer doesn't want to do in-warranty and out-of-warranty work on any vehicle that wasn't purchased from them...you clearly made a good decision not to purchase from them. For most dealers, the service department is a completely different profit center from vehicle sales, and refusing to perform service of any kind doesn't speak well for their overall business acumen. Rather, they should cheerfully do the work and if they are smart, try to ascertain why you chose to buy elsewhere so they can do better vying for your business the next time you are looking to acquire a new vehicle.

This is well stated and my feelings exactly. I purchased my '14 GC in another state because none of the dealerships around me wanted to come near the price I got out-of-state. I found one dealership that offers a free loaner car while mine is in for service; that's the one I go to and they've never asked me why I didn't purchase it from them - I assume they're just glad they get the service work.
