Re: Water pump already ?

Mine went out at about 28,000 miles. Saw anifreeze leaked and took it to the dealer and they replaced the thermostat and then couple days later I had antifreeze and white fumes rolling out from under the hood. Thought it was a fire and called a firetruck even. Had it towed to dealer and water pump replaced. 2012 with Hemi. I posted about it in Buckeye's thread.

Re: Water pump already ?

My V6 puked it's water pump last summer, must have been around 18K miles or so.
Fortunately I noticed the wetness under the Jeep and thought, "That's too much fluid for A/C bleed off." Ran my finger through it and felt the slickness of the anti-freeze. Checked the coolant level and immediately drove to the dealer. 1 hour later I was out the door with a new water pump.

Best service ever!

Re: Water pump already ?

My 13 Hemi needed a water pump with under 20k miles on it.

I occasionally hear a chirping noise from the water pump after my engine has heated up and I can hear it echoing off a wall or when I'm in my garage...doesn't bode well me thinks.

Yet the dealer service dept. assured me it was nothing to worry about. :/

That is absolutely ridiculous for the water pump to go at 28K. I guess they don't build 'em like they used to as I replaced the water pump and thermostat myself 1 year ago on my '99 JGC Limited V8. It had round 105,000 miles when it blew and I can certainly handle it going at 100K but 28K??? That is unacceptable even if covered under warranty.

My wife drives a 2007 Lexus RX450h, and the water pump went bad on it last year at about 45K. I contacted Lexus and argued that a vehicle of that "quality" should never have a pump blow that early and it had literally just passed the warranty expiration as well right before it happened. They ended up cutting me a check for over half of the repair which included the timing chain so I was happy.

Both of our cars started that way and got to the point they would do it all/most of the time. The dealer I go to said it was a common problem and always keeps water pumps on hand.

Re: Water pump already ?

My 2013 Summit needed it with less than 20K on it. V8. I heard a weird noise and took it in. Turns out it was the water pump. Weird how common this is......

Re: Water pump already ?

Super.

Thanks for letting me know though. I'll definitely be taking it in soon for a replacement. Just keeping my fingers crossed they don't f*** something else up during the swap.

Re: Water pump already ?

Just replaced my 2012 V8 pump at 43K under warranty. Didn't notice noise (above the piston slap!). Just small leak.

I love my service center, not where I bought the car either.. I diagnosed the issue as I could see the leak once I took the lower shroud off.. They ordered me in a pump prior to confirming the issue so they fixed it same day I dropped it off. This made the whole thing acceptable.. (new, not rebuilt).. Honestly wonder if rebuilt could be better as it would mean someone else than Chrysler is doing the work ; )

I'm glad I have 55K left on this warranty issue, but it does seem like weak spot on the hemi, and worry about getting stranded some time.

Surprised a Lexus wouldn't have a better warranty. Water pump is considered part of a mopar engine so on a MOPAR it's what 7yr/100K?

Re: Water pump already ?

Does anyone know if other MOPAR 5.7L V8s' water pumps will fit on a Jeep? I may buy an extra rebuilt one.

Answer = yes, it looks like.

And this one is "cheap!"... napa TFW 43557

Not sure what "standard cooling" means or if I have that or not though.. I do have the towing package.. Anyone?
