Re: Water pump already ?

My 2011 just had the water pump replaced at 53,000 miles. The car was a CPO so I am not sure if the previous owner ever needed it, from what I know and could tell I wouldn't think it had been done. Of note, 5.7L engine.

Re: Water pump already ?

How do you tell if your pump is about to go? I found some dried orange fluid around the belts. The only reason i saw it was because my belt was squeaking and I went to put some belt cleaner on it. I haven't seen any fresh puddles under the vehicle but I think I can hear the pump squeal a little when it starts. Oh and my fan on my radiator runs a lot more than it use to.

Water pump already ?

Look up from underneath for traces of white residue that ran down the metal part of the back of the water pump. There's a weep hole up above.

If you're still within the powertrain warranty, I would take it in to have them look at it. mine had fluid on the belt and that ended up getting worse and spraying all over the engine bay. Wasn't till that point it leaked below the vehicle and they ended up replacing it free of charge.

Have a 2016 Summit Hemi NEW currently 2500 on clock.
Thanks in advice for all the members input. Will watch for it since it is my wife's car do not drive it much.
Cool. I miss my 2000 WJ 4.7. Something to look out for on the WJ was that the water pump housing cover would start pitting and cause some some higher temps than the needle would normally sit at, I suppose due to more turbulent flow?

Re: Water pump already ?

2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Hemi and I had the pool of red fluid in my garage over the wekeend. Took it in today and they said water pump issue is done. My JGC only has 16,000 miles on it. The bigger issue is that there are no available water pumps at any dealers! So they have to put in a special order tomorrow am with Chrysler. Won't get jeep back for about a week? Ridiculous there are no water pumps currently available. How can this still be a problem?

Probably because they have been building them since 2011 with the same high failure rate water pump and theres probably a million plus out there and the high failure rate contues to drain the parts supply. Probably just going to get worse as they age. What i wonder is are they just putting the same high failure part back in? As there have been people on here reporting multiple water pump failurea.

from the warranty booklet;

"...using new or remanufactured parts."

I don't know if they are using reman water pumps at CDJR dealers these days but a reman water pump should be avoided like the plague that it is....the over-sized bearings they put in are pure junk = early failure....just my 20 cents

Re: Water pump already ?

Mine started making an awful noise last week at 49,000 miles. Took it in and they confirmed it was the water pump. I asked them how long to get one and they told me they always have some in stock. Refurb I asked? Nope, OEM and he showed me the box. They changed it on the spot under warranty but then took 4 hours to do the shifter recall! Ah well.

glad they totally hooked u up...as I suspected still all new until they change something which they haven't for a while and likely won't with it's rumored demise to be MY18 ....if they do they are required to use new if available and if not they/you will decide which one to order based on wait for new and situation....
