2014 with 28k on her, noticed last evening antifreeze sprayed all over the oil pan shroud, start car open hood and hear the bearing noises on the pump. Took it to the dealer this AM and found the pump is shot and the bearing are fried. How can this be on a 2014 with low miles. I remember a problem with these in the 11's but thought they fixed them
I'll let you know, getting her back later today. Reading the forum, this is still common with the 14's appears they haven't done much to resolve the issue going back to 2011
I'd be surprise about "common"...this is only about the second post I can remember in a couple years about a water pump issue. But I could have missed more...
Mine went out at 12,000 on MY 14 with v6. My wife's 2012 Chrysler 200 has the v6 too and had hers go at 22,000. Both started with a continuous chirp at idle.

I occasionally hear a chirping noise from the water pump after my engine has heated up and I can hear it echoing off a wall or when I'm in my garage...doesn't bode well me thinks.
Yet the dealer service dept. assured me it was nothing to worry about. :/
Mine went out at about 28,000 miles. Saw anifreeze leaked and took it to the dealer and they replaced the thermostat and then couple days later I had antifreeze and white fumes rolling out from under the hood. Thought it was a fire and called a firetruck even. Had it towed to dealer and water pump replaced. 2012 with Hemi. I posted about it in Buckeye's thread.
My V6 puked it's water pump last summer, must have been around 18K miles or so.
Fortunately I noticed the wetness under the Jeep and thought, "That's too much fluid for A/C bleed off." Ran my finger through it and felt the slickness of the anti-freeze. Checked the coolant level and immediately drove to the dealer. 1 hour later I was out the door with a new water pump.
That is absolutely ridiculous for the water pump to go at 28K. I guess they don't build 'em like they used to as I replaced the water pump and thermostat myself 1 year ago on my '99 JGC Limited V8. It had round 105,000 miles when it blew and I can certainly handle it going at 100K but 28K??? That is unacceptable even if covered under warranty.
My wife drives a 2007 Lexus RX450h, and the water pump went bad on it last year at about 45K. I contacted Lexus and argued that a vehicle of that "quality" should never have a pump blow that early and it had literally just passed the warranty expiration as well right before it happened. They ended up cutting me a check for over half of the repair which included the timing chain so I was happy.
My 2013 Summit needed it with less than 20K on it. V8. I heard a weird noise and took it in. Turns out it was the water pump. Weird how common this is......
Just replaced my 2012 V8 pump at 43K under warranty. Didn't notice noise (above the piston slap!). Just small leak.
I love my service center, not where I bought the car either.. I diagnosed the issue as I could see the leak once I took the lower shroud off.. They ordered me in a pump prior to confirming the issue so they fixed it same day I dropped it off. This made the whole thing acceptable.. (new, not rebuilt).. Honestly wonder if rebuilt could be better as it would mean someone else than Chrysler is doing the work ; )
I'm glad I have 55K left on this warranty issue, but it does seem like weak spot on the hemi, and worry about getting stranded some time.
Surprised a Lexus wouldn't have a better warranty. Water pump is considered part of a mopar engine so on a MOPAR it's what 7yr/100K?
Damn you know whats crazy im just checking in to see what this was about and one of my many new complaints was the smell of antifreeze when i put my heater on.. Smh hope this is not the issue but definitely will check in.. Car has 8078 miles 2015 summit v8

It is starting to look like a few water pumps. To be fair about it. I'd like to hear from the people that have no issues chime in.
Does the bad water pump show back up every 25 K because there is a flaw in the designed part? A bad run from the supplier?
Is the V6 any better?
Agree always check their work. when they did my brake booster recall they left the air intake uncoupled from the air box so it sucked unfiltered air for 5000 miles. I didn't notice this until I changed the air filter. sloppy careless idiots
It's not just dealers either (as you probably know). I do a lot of work myself but took my tahoe in for new front brakes.. The when I did a lube job the next week, I found one of the two R front caliper bolts not on! So 1 bolt was holding my brake on the axle!
I initially took my truck in for oil change and spark plugs at 32k at my Indy mechanic. He noted water pump leakage and tranny output shaft seal leaking.
...........Soooooo, I dropped off my truck Friday noonish at dealership, got it back Wednesday afternoon:
Recall work for sunvisor,
Recall work for brake booster cover,
Water pump leakage,
and transmission output shaft seal leaking.
Everything done under warranty....$0 to me.
Took my truck back to Indy mechanic today for "follow up".......he says water pump was replaced and the work looks like it was done properly.
Put the truck up on a lift and inspected the shaft seal......replaced and ...still leaking.
So I'm having my Indy mechanic redo shaft seal.
I guess time will tell how everything else turns out.
