Re: Wealthy love Jeep

Always been that way around here! Even back in the late 80s, Wranglers, Waggies and XJs were the staple in the nice areas!

Re: Wealthy love Jeep

Jeep wanted to attract a higher end client with the WK2, and it's worked. They just need to get their dealers and service under control and they could stand to make a lot of money, because they offer a great vehicle.

The Lexus RX, BMW 3, and MB E-Class make up at least 1 in 4 of every car where my parents live. You can't look at a road without seeing one, they're EVERYWHERE. There's quite a few Acuras as well. People with Lexi and Acuras love them, and keep buying new ones. The fact that they drive them for a few years and don't get absolutely destroyed come trade in I think goes a long way to help with that.

Re: Wealthy love Jeep

I dunno if its a complement or even nice work, in the 60s and 70s everyone with money had a GC.. They weren't that reliable a vehicle, but they had all the luxury do-dads and 4WD in a vehicle that drove fairly well on the highway. Perhaps more of a status symbol with high profit margins. Other companies threw their hat in the ring. Its nice to see Jeep building a better GC as a result.

You're thinking of the Grand Wagoneer - a vehicle for a long time had the buyers with the highest average income.

The reality of it is, most people that are wealthy don't go out buying Rolls Royces for every day of the week. The most common vehicle owner by millionaires right now is the F-150. Many misinterpret that fact though, they may be "only" buying F-150s, but they do tend to be higher end trucks. King Ranches, Harleys, loaded Lariats, etc.

Jeep has a winner with their combination of comfort, power, quality, and capability, with attractive but not ostentatious styling. It's a vehicle that can fit in anywhere, a sign of a great vehicle.

Re: Wealthy love Jeep

This just further proves a point I was trying to make. Since the Grand Cherokee was first conceived, it's had one focus, to be a go anywhere, luxury SUV. While many of those years were shall we say "a painful lesson", it's clear vision and purpose was easy to understand, and easily fulfills the needs in our lives. Unlike GM and Ford, who must think most of their designs really suck, because they keep scrapping them and starting all over, time and time again. This is where I've said is the biggest difference between Jeep/Chrysler and the other two automakers. Jeep/Chrysler looks at lifestyles and evolves the designs to fit, like most other car makers, where as GM and Ford create vehicles that we have to fit into our lifestyles.

Re: Wealthy love Jeep

I agree to a point. But GM and Ford had the two best lifestyle vehicles on the market - the Sport Trac and Avalanche/Escalade EXT. Bed for general use, comfortable 4 door SUV up front, and not massively huge like a quad cab pickup truck. My father has had 3 Sport Tracs, and I still sometimes wish I had gotten an Escalade EXT over the Jeep. They are truly the do anything vehicles, though the Escalade admittedly doesn't exactly fit in with every crowd like the Jeep does.

The sales to July numbers seem low, but what do I know!
