Weird test drive tonight ACC buttons with no sensor in front

One of the local dealers called this afternoon all excited that he just came across one with all the features I wanted. I dropped in after work and we were out on the road ...

For the life of both of us, we could not figure out how to get the adaptive cruise control to turn on and work. We kept pressing the ACC buttons with all sorts of combinations, we pulled off to the side of the road and went into the vehicle setup in the EVIC trying to see if it was disabled somehow, etc.

Finally, after driving up the freeway and taking an exit, we pulled off to the side of the road and the sales guy looked under the hood to see if the fuse was seated properly. He was smart enough to look at the front bumper only to find out that it didn't have the sensor at all. WEIRD!

Anyone else ever seen a GC with the ACC buttons in the steering wheel without actually having the ACC package? Does this mean it could be added later? Seems like this has to be some sort of mistake by the factory ... they are intentionally teasing me now.

Re: Weird test drive tonight ACC buttons with no sensor in front

Besides the sensor in the front lower grille, another clue to look for in the ACC Pkg. would be the the triangle shaped illuninators in both side view mirrors for blind spot monitoring notification. If the GC has neither the sensor or the triangles chances are there is no ACC system in the vehicle. Maybe an ACC steering wheel was installed in error at the factory. To add this option later would more than likely be a major undertaking.

I'd think that the build sheet and window sticker would show if the appropriate items should have been installed. It could be that the sensor itself was just not mounted at the factory and the wrong lower fascia was installed, but the wiring and everything else is there. Or it could be that they put on the wrong wheel and NONE of that stuff is there.

Either way, that seems like a kind of big thing for them to let slip through.

Did the regular cruise control still work?

Yeah. Regular cruise worked. The ACC stuff never showed up when pressing the top two buttons (Mode and Distance buttons).

I've moved on from that one. I hope June comes soon so I can place my order.
