The lease-numbers are a factor I can't influence and I'm keeping my fingers crossed they will be better once I take delivery.

I think that the rest of my deal isn't too bad. 2% below invoice in my area is about as good as it gets.

My trade-in is currently listed at $8,600 on KBB. My dealer agreed to pay me $8,000 for my trade in 2 months when I take delivery (KBB would be down at least another $600 by then). I think that is reasonable as well.

I'll keep a close eye on the lease-numbers for October and November.
Quick question, are you being charged an acquisition fee? I got charged a $595 acquisition fee, dealer said it was mandatory from chrysler. But I don't see it in your numbers. Wondering if I got screwed on that.

According to my papers, I wasn't.

I also used Affiliate Rewards (AR) Pricing through Tread Lightly and I think in that case, dealers are not allowed to charge anything besides a $75 Program-Fee and their regular Doc-Fees (plus taxes, tag & registration). I guess in my case - since the doc-fees are somewhat on the upper end, my dealer was so kind not to charge the $75 program-fee on top of the doc.

I wonder if your doc fees include the acquisition fee, because my doc fee was about $100.

Hmm, I'll check on that.

EDIT: I just e-mailed my dealer and asked. Let's see what he says. On his website, he's listing the exact same $599.75 as "dealer fee" - whatever that means.

GCO, check whatever "yellow pages" equivalent you prefer for independent leasing companies and see if you can find one that wants your business. Not all of them will do personal vehicles, but some do. I worked with one years ago that did.

Thanks, Jim.

I'll keep that in mind in case the rates stay as bad as they are right now.

Got a response from my dealer and the $599.75 is indeed their "dealer-fee" that includes doc (and I guess a couple of hundred $$ additional profit). Since I will be getting KBB trade-in value for my old ride and 2% below invoice, I can live with that.

Oh, one more thing about Chrysler's lease-numbers (rate and residual):

When are they usually announced for each month and is there any website that shows the current rates or a number to call to find them out?

Since I'm planning on taking delivery early November, I assume there will be two changes from now - one in October and one for November. Now, in the (unlikely?) case the rates will be better in October compared to November, is there a way to lock the October-rate in for an early November-delivery (in order to compare the two and pick the better the day of delivery) or will I be bound to the rate in effect the day I take delivery?

Thanks!

Why spend all it takes for a Summit and just get the V6? Lease? Why make the lenders happy and your net worth smaller?

I prefer the V6 because I don't tow and the majority of the time, I'm driving in stop and go traffic. In my case, the V8 is simply a waste of money. What makes the Summit attractive are the features - it's not about the engine. If I want to have better performance and handling, I take my Lincoln MKZ for a spin. If you want true performance in a Jeep, you need to get the SRT - but that's a totally different animal. I used to own a 2006 BMW M5 so I once had the urge for "endless power". Well, not anymore. Even a Ferrari can't fly over a traffic-jam.

Vehicles depreciate - no matter if you lease, finance or pay cash. I lease because I switch cars every 2-3 years. Although I have to pay more on depreciation, I'm happy I don't have to spend money on repairs, new tires or extended warranties.

BTW, people who finance and trade their cars in after a couple of years basically ARE leasing - they just don't realize it...

Everybody's situation is different. I typically trade between 2 & 3 years. I always do the math and buying and trading always comes out a little ahead for me. It's typically not a whole lot, but my low mileage helps. Plus, no gap insurance, built in or add on, saves a little.
