Well, The Inevitable Finally Happened

This morning I got in my first accident in my Jeep. Thanks to some moron not paying attention, I got rear ended and almost missed class. So now I have to drive a shitty rental for who knows how long

Re: Well, The Inevitable Finally Happened

Thanks yeah I don't think they really need to do much. I think all they need to do is replace the back bumper, get a new reflector for the bumper, buff out (or replace) the front bumper and then fix the muffler and exhaust (which is currently sitting in the trunk). Hopefully it wouldn't take long to do those things if thats all it needs.

The worst part is that I just washed it yesterday so every scratch shows like 10x more then if it was dirty.

that's not quite true on unibody cars, it also give him a higher risk of really bending the chassis too.

Looks like SR60 eastbound?

Re: Well, The Inevitable Finally Happened

That's no fun...

I had someone rear end me once....gosh was quite a few Jeeps ago and bent up the front of their car and only cracked the little cover piece that covers the tow hitch (the covers were a plastic then).

How'd the front bumper get damaged? Did it push you into the car in front of you?

Re: Well, The Inevitable Finally Happened

I haven't through about if I had a trailer hitch on it and I did bump the car in front of me and she had the slightest scratch on her car. I feel bad because she said she got her car in April.

That's my best bet as well. When I read "Ferman", I knew it might not be too far away...

My car was like 2 weeks old when I got rear ended.....I was expecting the worst but that darn trailer hitch saved me!

Sorry about your accident....hopefully the other driver's insurance pays for it all and the body shop details your Jeep before you get it back!

Re: Well, The Inevitable Finally Happened

Sucks that it happened, never fun to get into an accident.

I've been rear ended twice (both low speed at stop lights, which I'll never understand) and zero damage to the Jeep but messed up the front of the other cars.

I can tell him do not take it to any of the Ed Morse dealerships they do some suspect work. Also make sure they use OE parts not aftermarket.

Re: Well, The Inevitable Finally Happened

+1 on the factory trailer hitch. Unlike many aftermarket hitches which are cantilevered under the fascia, the factory hitch is both masssive and mounted with many bolts inline with the chassis rails.

Two years ago I was rearended while stopped in traffic in an Interstate exit lane by a F*rd 150. Folded the front of the truck into a V and both of its airbags deployed. My active headrests deployed & was mostly protected.

I tend to leave a bit more room in front than some so did not hit the car in front.

One lip of the hitch was folded back so they replaced it. All of my damage was cosmetic, everything including the rear camera still worked.

ps my GPS recoded the exact time and place of the impact. If there had been any issue with the other insurance company I was ready to subpeona cell phone records.

pps don't forget "diminished value".
