What are new owners buying for their new Jeeps?

Many members here have a jeep on order, or recently completed that process. The waiting around is tough, and it's clear that some prospective owners pass the time by scaring each other with the horror stories of unfortunate buyers. I wondered whether others pass the time by shopping for accessories? While waiting impatiently for the birth of your new baby jeep, did you stock up on floor mats, cleaning products, and/or other treats for the new arrival?

There isn't much extra needed for the Summit unless you're looking to "delete" the chrome. I like the factory look, but also like it deleted. I'm very particular about the cars we have and how they're optioned/modded, but the chrome really doesn't bother me enough to do something about it.

I bought WeatherTech mats (front/rear) as they're relatively deep to hold the snow, but opted for the Jeep slush mat for the cargo area due to looks. I really like how the cargo area looks without the liner, but haul something a couple times and you'll see that you need a liner. I also ended up with the Jeep front and rear slush mats that are in a box somewhere, but that's a different story altogether. Next I bought LED fog lights to better match the xenons. Finally, I had the front two windows tinted to 20% to closely match the factory rear tinting. Seat back iPad mounts for the kids and I'm done modding for now.

I'm not crazy about "Grand Cherokee" on the door, but otherwise the chrome doesn't bother me. I'm getting a CRD, but I might remove the Eco-diesel label.

nice—were they expensive?

I haven't done much so far, my few purchases were mopar slush mats for the front back and cargo area and jeep valve stem caps.

I will be doing a tint on the driver and passenger windows, an exhaust to add a little growl and CAI.

Things I have considered but haven't decided on are an SRT front bumper and hood and powder coating the wheels. I'm on the fence on that stuff though. I've already decided my next jeep is gonna be the SRT so I might just hold off on the hood and bumper. I've seen a few people with those mods and they good tho.

Cool stuff!

  • I am poised to order the Husky liners, but some buyers here seem to prefer the Mopar cargo mat. What do you think of your Husky cargo mat?
  • Do you get much wind noise with your thule rack?
  • I definitely need to get wheels and snow tires. My GC will come with 20" wheels, but for winter I want 18" wheels. Which Nokian model did you get? Incidentally, have you considered also carrying chains?

Since one was not available I built a CAI. See a rapid pull down at WOT and more sound but not much difference at cruise.

Added from Jeep a Cargo Cover and side rails/step. Aftermarket ODB-II dongle & 7" Android tab, back up camera, and stainless sill steps. SilverStar headlamps, "trunk mat", heavy duty foot mats, & various accessories for the factory towing package.

Prefer cloth seats to leather, have used the fold down passenger seat to carry long objects, & prefer the chromeless look of the Laredo. Of course my '12 was not as decontented as later ones.

With the V6 it is the best tow car I have ever had.

Love it! :) My main fear is that I already have no time for everything else in my life, yet I can feel this new Grand Cherokee demanding my undivided attention. I started cleaning out my garage this week, too.

I will probably install the new Husky mud guards when they are released in a few weeks. I have them on my current vehicle (a BMW x3) and I am convinced that they help keep stones and grime from kicking up on the sides of the car.

Considering a new floor jack for the seasonal change of wheels (my current one takes ages to adjust), thinking about a new utility trailer, definitely want a roof rack that I can take on and off quickly, will probably add skid plates.

What about music libraries? What's the best method for regularly updating a music collection in your jeep?

I drove my JGC from the dealer straight to a local auto spa for the application of a clear bra covering the front bumper, grill and several inches across the front edge of the hood. It looks really great. I neglected to do this on my Acura MDX and the front end has multiple stone chips. I don't want this to happen to the new Jeep (2014 JGC Limited, black/black, Jan.'14 build).

I stopped at a tire shop after I picked up my Limited and traded in the Michelins Latitudes for a set of Firestone Destination AT's. I had a set on my JK Unlimited, great tire for the Colorado high country,

Waiting for my JGC ordered the Weather Tech front mats and rear cargo mat. Ordered 24 quarts of oil (diesel takes a special oil from either Pennzoil and or Mobil). As soon as I picked it up I added extended service 8/ 120 from Ziegler and also got the front windows tinted to match the rear windows.

With the new set up in the jeeps I think streaming music from various music apps is probably a decent option. I used to use my ipod exclusively for music in the jeep. Just plugged it in and stashed it in the hideaway spot under the radio and forgot about it. I'm sure a lot of people also load music on the hard drive from flash drives. Plenty of options with our jeeps!

First thing I bought was a real set of slush mats. I got the WeatherTech laser fitted due to the nice fit/quality (have them on my wife's car too). I opted for both front/rear and the cargo area mat...a bit pricy ($300 total). They've come in handy already. My only complaint is I wish they covered up a bit higher on the dead pedal area on the drivers side.
