Re: What brand of Gas?

As mentioned earlier all gas comes from the same pipeline and then a cup of additives are added to the tanker. I've never noticed a difference in brands of gas in my chevy but the toyota I traded in for the JGC was very sensitive to higher ethanol mixtures (10% range) and got less mileage.

This.

The oil companies are not vertically integrated. The oil coming out of an Exxon well is not likely to be refined at an Exxon refinery, and the gas at an Exxon station is even less likely to be from an Exxon refinery.

I buy my gas from just about anywhere. Whatever's most convenient. There's a Sunoco down the street from my house that I suppose I frequent most often. There's a BP farther down the road that I sometimes go when out shopping. If I stop for gas after work, it's usually either an Exxon or Sheetz.

I do avoid mom & pop places that aren't selling any specific brand of gas. If it's no-name gas, then only gawd knows what additives are in it (or not in it). Even then, most of those places are out in the middle of no where and probably are selling some well known brand of gas but they just haven't paid a franchise fee or whatnot so don't have the right to advertise the brand.

The Hess Corporation (formerly Amerada Hess) is an integrated oil company based in New York City. The company explores, produces, transports, and refines crude oil and natural gas. Vertically completing the logistical chain, about 1,360 Hess branded filling stations market gasoline to consumers in 16 states along the East Coast of the United States. The Hovensa refinery in the United States Virgin Islands, a joint venture between a subsidiary of Hess Corporation and a subsidiary of Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA), is one of the largest crude oil refineries in the world. Refined petroleum products, as well as natural gas and electricity, are marketed to customers throughout the East Coast of the United States. Although towered over in size by enormous global players in the same industry, Hess placed #55 in the 2009 Fortune 500 rankings.

The company has exploration and production operations in the United States, United Kingdom, Norway, Denmark, Russia, Equatorial Guinea, Algeria, Libya, Gabon, Egypt, Ghana, the Joint Development Area of Malaysia and Thailand, Indonesia, Thailand, Azerbaijan, Australia, Brazil, and St. Lucia.

Re: What brand of Gas?

Exxon the most since rebate card I am using. Shell, Costco sometimes too. I believe Shell/Exxon is best gas. I don't go Valero/Citgo/Lukoil to do not support Chavez and Putin. Regular only.

Re: What brand of Gas?

I rotate around but mainly ConocoPhillips and Shell. From what I've read it's good to rotate brands (detergents) and avoid the cheap brands.

Thanks. Mainly east coast would explain why I never heard of Hess.

Funny that you mention Hess. After college I lived across the street from Mr. Hess's office. He died not long ago.

Re: What brand of Gas?

Sunoco more often than not. Plenty of competitively priced stations in the area, and haven't had a bad tankful yet.
