I am anxiously awaiting my WK2, mainly because it is a new toy. I will be sad to part with my current ride when the jeep arrives though, my 2005 Volvo V70R. It was Volvos attempt to match the high performance versions of other companies, like the Audi S4. They don't make the "R" anymore. It has a turbo charged 300HP engine, all wheel drive, 0-60 under 6 seconds, HUGE Brembo brakes and rotors, 6 speed manual, active chassis system that lets you choose between three damping settings on the shocks (can go so stiff you feel like your in a vette), seating for 7 (with the rear facing seats in the trunk), and a nice body style that doesn't draw attention from the cops. When I got it, I thought is was faster and handled better than my Mitsu 3000GT. Like my WK2, it was a custom order and I had to wait a long time for it. I remember getting up each morning and tracking its progress on the ship as it crossed the Atlantic Ocean. I was moving from Cleveland, to Salt Lake City for work, and the car made it to Cleveland with only one week to spare! It does great in the snow and ice, except that the front spoiler is a little low, and there are days when I'm not sure I will make it out of my street if the plows haven't come through yet because of the limited ground clearance. Every car I've had in the last 22 years was a manual, and I'm tired of shifting. Can't wait to get my WK2 with automatic (something I never thought I would say).... I hope the WK2 is half as reliable as my V70R has been. I will miss her....
Welcome to the forum ckehl2 & Ashton. You will find lots of great info in this forum with great people that are super helpful. Good luck with your new rigs.
First post. I traded an 03 Cadillac Escalade Ext for an overland summit with a V8. The Escalade was fun but it was starting to show its age. Overall I'm pretty impressed with the jeep so far.
Congrats on the new ride! You'll love it! You'll have a much better time offroading in the jeep! It's also surprisingly luxurious for the price tag it holds.
my 50k mile 02 passat w8. had a major engine overhaul done at a local vw dealer and it caught on fire less than 200 miles after I picked it up! this was in november and I'm pretty lucky to have picked up an 07 WK CRD. the other day a guy fueling up his cummins freaked out when he saw me using the yellow nozzle and I had to calm him down and reassure him that it was a diesel jeep. I'm used to that type of thing after owning that w8 for a couple years since most people ended up driving the little 1.8t around. hope this crd keeps me going for a decade or so!
I'm upgrading from a 96' HSE Rangie. It's been a labour of love constantly fixing it. It has been a great car though.
4.6ltr, goodyear 19' MT/R tyres on 06' Sport rims, Arnotts air springs, Bilstein shocks.
We sold a '96 4Runner Limited (great SUV!) and are turning in our '08 Subaru Legacy GT Limited, off lease.
The 4Runner was a great addition to our vehicle collection and got a lot of use running back and forth to our place in Wisconsin. But with the Subaru's lease term coming to an end, it seemed like a good time to get back down to two primary vehicles.
The idea was to consolidate into 1 vehicle. I love the luxury package with my Laredo X but I'm beginning to regret selling my truck to my dad. I would rather keep it and turn the jeep into more of a street Jeep. Throw some srt reps on with some nitto terra grapplers to keep some offroad capabilites. But the plan is to get some black 17's and some toyo mt's. If my dad weren't looking forward to getting the truck I would keep it. Had it for 7 years and it's the first nice vehicle I bought.
I'm not sure but I've heard that the Ford F150 is the most popular truck in America. Everyone I know here in Kuwait who's bought one swears by it to be the toughest truck. The problem here is, people who buy pick ups in Kuwait barely ever use it. I always tell them you'll get more utility from an SUV. It's become more of a trend than utility. There's nothing big here that people really carry. I remember in Canada if I saw a pick up it was mainly for off-road and utility purposes (carrying lumber, large items etc). Here it's turned into a "look at my cool pick up". I understand the trend, I mean even I love the way pick ups look but I just can't see the utility behind them here in Kuwait. I know the roads are rough here with potholes and what not but it's not like it's really destructive. If you have a lowered sports car you'll have some issues with some roads here but apart from that, the roads are decent. Don't get me wrong, I love pick ups and I've driven an Avalanche (which I think is bloody awesome apart from it's ridiculous size).
I went from a 2000 Cherokee Sport 4X4 to my 2001 WJ Limited. Sold my 2000 to a guy that always wanted one and whos eyes lit up like a lil kid on Christmas when he bought and drove off with it. I had told him straight up that it was a lil rough but told him the things I had fixed, replaced, and updated while I had it (along with the receipts) and he was even more happier. He asked if the rear wiper and washer worked, I told him yes, and I swear I thought he was going to cry! lol (and this dude was a 6'3", burly log truck driver that probably could have bench pressed the Jeep lol).
Buying the jeep as a second family car. Keeping the 07 tacoma doublecab and 03 Acura rsx type s(wasnt worth trading since its paid off and I can run it back and forth to work). Not dumping anything yet. But if I do I will sell the rsx at a later date...
2006 BMW M3 Competition package, 6spd manual trans., Alpine White with/ Cinnamon. Int. What a fantastic ride! Traction control off and Sport mode on ... Unadulterated sideways fun that made me squeal like a Lil girl everytime. She will be sorely missed, but it was time to get back into a suv. I had plenty of fun with that whip. Hope she finds a new home that treats her well.
Being an import car fanatic all my life and ordering a jeep this week kinda scared me. But after reading how many people traded some classy Imports on the jeep gives me confidence I made the right decision. Is the grand Cherokee really that great that people trade their bimmers, porsches etc on it? I hope. I can't wait til mine is built!!
Upgraded my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee I owned for 15 years. The only reason I even got rid of her was she needed a transmission rebuilt which costs nearly as much as the Jeep.
Since I am probably going to keep my new Jeep for 15 years went all out, 21012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland. Still going to miss my old Jeep, lots of memories.
Gave up a 98 Ford Expedition that I could tow with, until the chassis began to rust out from under it....and also a 2011 Kia Sorento, which could not tow a shopping cart. The new Jeep gets nearly the mileage of the Kia, and can pull 4-5k a few times a year.
