Re: What car are you dumping to make room for your WK2?

I have a Carmax nearby...never been in one so I thought what the heck I'll stop in and see what they would give me for my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4x4 Hemi loaded with DVD, Nav, Chrome wheels with only 37,300 miles on it...interior is immaculate, no accidents, all scheduled maintenance, no smoking, no pets and MSRP was $43,420....they offered $13,000. What a joke. My Jeep dealer said he'd give me $15,000 for a trade-in ($15,950 if you factor in the sales tax savings) and that was just the starting trade-in number and the dealer is accepting the TL pricing. And I have two friends who want to buy it and will readily pay $16,000. The Carmax number was surprisingly low....and they made up something saying the transmission shifted hard....that is just false. Transmission is just like the day I bought it and I've had the 30,000 mile maintenance which include review of everything, fluids, etc. Anybody have any experience with Carmax that was better?

My experience with Carmax after having them put a price on the last 3 vehicles I've sold is their price is pretty accurate based on local wholesale or the price an non-specific dealer will quote you. In fact, based on Black Book, the pricing guide almost every dealer uses, they offered you the higher end of standard book value!

The reason your dealer is offering more is they are a Jeep dealer so people shop there first for a used Jeep. With Carmax or any other non-Jeep dealer it's just another truck on the lot.

Below is the Black Book price quote for average trade based on the most current auction and dealer transactions. You may not like the price but if ANY dealer offers you more then jump on it, they are doing you a favor.

Some idiot ran a red and smashed the wifes WK. I'm not sure it will ever be right. Still undergoing tweaks. I thought now was the time to trade mine and get her into a new Grand. then maybe I'll trade hers in on another wrangler someday.

Not dumping, but will keep for my DD as the Mustang will stay garaged, 2002 Audi A4, great car, 150K miles, but expensive to maintain

2002 BMW 325XiT. Great handling awd wagon. Really drove well, but started needing expensive repairs. In the shop 5x last year. Too much $ . Loving the GC so far...

I myself am going from an '08 Infiniti G37S Coupe 6M, 330+ HP with Injen CAI and Tanabe exhaust. Seems like a fair number of us going from "sports" car to SUV. I'm hoping to order a GC Overland 4 x 4 very soon
