Re: What car are you dumping to make room for your WK2?

Once the CRD is available...

'06 Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT Spec. B

130k miles on the odometer, and I've put almost $8k into the motor since the 100k mark. Time to cut my losses and get something better

Route 66 is a splendid one to behold
Replacing a 2011 Subaru Outback 3.6R Limited for a 2014 GC Limited CRD if they open up the order bank! The Outback is great but feels a little light when towing.

Traded in 2004 4Runnet Sport with only 55,000 miles. Best car I ever owned. Took a lot for me to move away from Toyota, but I had been drooling over the GC for a while. Found a new 2013 Overland that was perfect. I am hoping to someday say that this was the best car I ever owned.

2008 Mazda CX-9. Reliable car, fun to drive, but technologically retarded.

With a deep cherry red Grand Overland, I can't do that anymore. It's such a yuppie looking car I traded in more than my truck. I traded in my redneck and replaced it with some touchy feely, latte sippin', Tommy Bahama wearing yuppie scum playing Enya on the CD. (SIGH)
This is the best thing I read all day. Hilarious. I can relate.. Just out of curiosity, what kind of mpg did you get with the truck?

Re: What car are you dumping to make room for your WK2?

I got 15 city and 19 or so on the fwy. I've hit 20 mpg but it requried keeping it at the sweet spot of 60 mph, flat, no headwinds, and at sea lever. Doing 75mph, uphills or headwinds, and road tripping across 6,000-7,000 foot elevation drops it to about 17 mpg or less. Not bad for an 8,000 pound diesel truck, though not as good as the old 5.9 liter Cummins which would get 22-24 mpg. The EPA choked the mileage out of a great diesel with the emissions requirements: EGR, particulate filter, and spraying raw diesel fuel into the particulate filter to burn off the soot.

Cummins will now use DEF--essentially pee water just like Ford and GMC/Chevy to increase mileage within EPA standards. The diesel Grand Cherokee also uses DEF along with all the emissions crap. Diesel used to be 20 cents less per gallon, great mileage, and lasted forever--so it almost justifed a $7,500 premium to get the Cummins. Now, diesel is 20 cents more than premium gas, a small increase in mileage, but $4,500 extra for the VM Motori diesel in the Jeep, and the cost of the DEF. I cannot justify that especially if the diesel does not say CUMMINS on it. VM Motori is probably a good engine, but Cummins 6.7 is the only medium rated diesel engine capable of being used in Class 6 and 7 trucks (it will be underpowered in most Class 7s) and proven in use in fire engines, school buses, motor homes, tractors, commercial rigs. Went on many road trips in that Ram----fire up that diesel, slip in some George Straight and it's Amarillo by Morning.....
