My plan is to just run it with the shade open all the time. That was absolutely impossible before, way to bright and too hot! 5% with the sun directly over you isn't as dark as you'd think. I held 5%/13%/22% up to the sunroof in direct sun before deciding on 5%.

My tint guy here in Dallas refused to do my sunroof. He said that the heat rejection from the tint could shatter the sunroof glass (or something along those lines). Not really sure how thats any different from the side windows being tinted though.

Anyone hear about this or have issues tinting their sunroof?

Highly doubtful, however i could see the tint going bad (fading, shrinking, bubbling, etc..) The roof of the car will take more heat and be in sunlight longer then side windows...it is true in a way...

Re: What did you do to your WK2 today?

I just did a quick search on the sunroof tint and apparently it is a thing

It does get hot here in TX and would hate for the sunroof to bust from being tinted

I'm skeptical, but promise I'll follow up in this thread if my sunroof shatters lol.

lol thanks... i'm skeptical too but some people just have that kind of luck.

When I get ready to do it, I may go with 20% since it's already somewhat tinted.

It makes sense. Dark colors absorb a great deal of heat that lighter ones reject. Heat causes thermal expansion, and the Sun Roof takes it full force. The Sun Roof is a moving mechanism that is required to seal to prevent leaks. It obviously requires a tight fit. Living here in Phoenix where temperatures are far higher than in Dallas, I wouldn't mess with it.

My windows were dealer tinted. Not the sun roof. I'm sure if they could have tinted it and made a few bucks more, they simply would have. I mean why not? Everyone here including myself would go for it. In hot weather during the day, I just keep the interior cover closed. The desert Sun is a powerful thing. If it can heat light colored concrete hot enough to burn your feet. Think of what it will do to very dark glass?

Installed my VG shark fin....pretty straight forward. Seems like I've lost 2 of the 3 FM stations I would listen to (thank god for sirius!). I'll know for sure tomorrow when I'm driving.

Looks good. That's odd, my reception is just as good and actually inside the parking garage at work it's better than stock.
