Re: What did you do to your WK2 today?

When I was a young Buck I got pulled over doing well over the speed limit while using a radar detector. The State Trooper told me I could take the rather large ticket with 4 points on my license (if I recall) or smash my radar detector on the side of the road. The radar detector hit the dirt never to return. What a useless contraption. As far as I'm concerned they only let you know you've been busted.

Re: What did you do to your WK2 today?

Radar detectors just like vehicles have come a long way in the way it performs.

With that said it's how you use the device. If a person drives like a tool, he shouldn't be driving regardless of what kind of equipment he sports. If you're the only vehicle speeding and you're caught, the detector won't save you.

The detector simply does that, detects. If you're a pack of vehicles going over the limit and the officer is monitoring the area it will let you know. Again the type of radar detector and the price you paid most often speaks of its performance.

Mine has saved me countless times on long trips - Vegas, LA, SF. The speed limit doesn't reflect the capability of modern cars. Doesn't mean you should speed recklessly. And in areas like mine, I have the right to know when I'm being monitored.

Re: What did you do to your WK2 today?

Having run radar here in Canada and LIDAR I normally only turn the beam on when I can see the car and turn it off as soon as I get a read (if the car isn't speeding). The radar units will also pick out the fastest car in a group of vehicles. On twinned highways I'll run the "eye" that's in the back window to see how fast cars are closing in on me. All that while cruising 5-10 over the speed limit to avoid creating a train of cars behind me. I usually only pulled over people traveling 20km over the limit. I'll flash my lights to get a driver to slow it down. Mostly issued warnings unless the speed was truly excessive or the driver was ignorant from "Good afternoon sir/mam ...". I never got transferred to a highway unit. Wasn't the best stat generator lol aside from warnings and street checks.

BTW here radar detectors get placed under the drivers tire of choice before they are permitted to leave the road side stop.

Oh and if a cop flashes his lights at you just slow down gradually. No need to stomp on the brake.

Locking up the brakes and fish tailing is all part of avoiding the ticket. The police officer will never know who was speeding once you do that 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

The front bumper scrapping the pavement is always good for a laugh.

Okay that was annoying. Couldn't last more than an hour with it. I was expecting a subtle beep as a gentle reminder not a whole sentence every time you nudge above the limit. I wouldn't wish this on my enemy. Lol.

The better ones were the violent nose dive accompanied by tire smoke. I was laughing too hard to bother stopping them.

Re: What did you do to your WK2 today?

I always followed the throw the car in the lowest gear it will let you to slow it down because brake lights were said to be an admission of guilt lol. then when pulled over apologize and admit guilt instead of making up every excuse in the book.

there seems to be less focus now on nailing the people going 70 in a 55 as back in the 90s that seemed to be a sure ticket back then. now it seems they focus more on that 20+ mph ticket which is the big one and HOV violators which they are very aggressive with.

Its a sliding scale here on the HOV you get the 3 points and 1st ofense $125, 2nd $250, 3rd $500, 4th and all subsequent $1000. The ridiculous one is anything over 80 mph is misdemeanor reckless driving manditory court appearance you cant just pay the fine, so going 80 in a 70 you are standing in front of a judge for a misdemeanor. min fine like $350 ranging into the thousands depending. Touching 80 here is really bad even though speed limit is 70.

This reminds me of Finland. Where what you earn, or are worth, determines how much you get fined. Traffic fines well into 6 digits are not all that uncommon. Insane. Good old fashion Socialism at it's best. Rob from the haves, to give to the have not's. Obama would be in heaven.

Finland, Land of the $200K Speeding Ticket
