I can save you a bit of room ... just bring a pack of playing cards. If you get into trouble, start playing Solitaire. Before long, someone will show up and tell you to "play the 10 of clubs on the jack of diamonds ... "

Re: What do you have in your "Kit"

What are the basics I should have for a tow/rescue kit?

I saw a video of some dude in GC yesterday pulling out a FJ with a blue strap. Where do I get these and are some better than others? Sorry this is my first SUV and I am just trying to prepare some stuff just in case.

Re: What do you have in your "Kit"

Because I have always had hitches on my Jeeps, I've kept a tow strap in the back for emergencies. Twice now I've assisted a stranded motorist with it, once in a snow covered parking lot a Mustang was overiding a divider and stuck. Two guys were helping but could not dislodge the Mustang and so I used the tow strap and easily pulled it off onto flat ground. The second time (last year) my sister-in-law called because she slid off an icy patch of road into the ditch. Again the Jeep easlily pulled her out. That's a very basic item one can have to help.

Re: What do you have in your "Kit"

I travel across the country often (not in the WK2 all the time) but have always had the following in my emergency "kit":
-2 gal water in bottles
-2pkgs beef jerky
-2pkgs trail mix
-compact first aid kit
-solar blanket
-satellite phone
-towing strap
-towels
-gloves
-heavy-duty/combat knife
-Ruger Redhawk 44mag

I always have water and food; when I was a teenager we had a breakdown in the Cascade mountains during a storm and went two days before we got help (no cell/sat phone). This is a minimal kit and easily fits into the various vehicles I use for travel, including a tight-quarters 330i I once had. The last item depends upon your CCW permit and the various laws in the states which you travel through, but it's literally loaded for bear defense.

Re: What do you have in your "Kit"

Thanks for some serious responses.

I have ordered a few things that should be able to get myself or most anyone else out of a jam.

1x 30' 2 3/8" ARB Snatch Strap. It is rated at 17,600LBS. Should work fine for anything short of a very large truck, basically anything under 8500lbs. My understanding is that you want these to be able to stretch because it is the kinetic energy of the recoil that pops the vehicle out.

I would like some advice of what Shackles I need to use with these. I know they have to be rated higher than the strap. Any recommendations?

I also picked up a set of LiftTrax. I have been eying these for a while now, longe before I owned the Jeep. If I had these in my car since I started driving they would have paid for themselves over several times. The Jeep is a much more capable vehicle than anything else I have had mind you so I am not sure how often I will ever need to use these but at least it will give me tons of options if I ever go out alone and get in a bind.
