The only thing you turn off is the ECO from displaying in the dash, you do not turn off any function of the engine.
I know, but the Pentastar as installed in the Grand Cherokee does not have MDS on it (or if it does, they aren't telling anybody).

But according to some of the background material is capable of having mds put in at the factory - something about it being in the basic head design along with the direct injector ports.....

P.s. guess that will probably show up on the Mercedes version 1st?????

I know that it doesn't just wanted to make sure that someone who didn't know, now knows that it doesn't turn it off.
I think that made sense....

yeah it took me a bit to figure it out too, as long as your rpms are under 2k i think, i forgot(they have a green bar under them) then you are getting the "best" gas mileage... thats why the v6 is slow from 0-2k ropms

Re: What does "ECO" mean on EVIC with V6?

All these replies and still no info.

It's the iFDSO. Interactive Fuel Decel Shut Off. When the vehicle is under deceleration, the Jeep will shut fuel off to all cylinders. It also appears whenever the vehicle is driven in a fuel efficient manner.

In other words, keep the light on, and you'll get the best gas mileage.

It's actually more than just the fuel pulse being shut down. Almost all fuel injection systems have the ability to completely shut down the fuel pulse under deceleration. That's been common for more than 10 years now. The ECO light is directly tied to the amount of vacuum the engine is pulling. At idle in Park or Neutral, the engine vacuum should be approximately 20 in/hg. Under wide open throttle, engine vacuum will be zero. So it should make sense that the lighter you are on the gas pedal, the higher the engine vacuum will be. The ECO light illuminates when you keep the engine vacuum high and goes out when it drops. I don't know the exact point that it's set to go on/off, but anyone can determine this by simply installing a temporary vacuum gauge and watching for the point that the ECO light turns on/off.

I've seen older cars that have an ECO gauge (with a needle) and all they are is a vacuum gauge without the numbers on them.

Merc won't use this engine. The next ML will probably see the 5 liter turbo 8, the direct injected 3.5 v6 and the 3.0 diesel...at least in the US.

Re: What does "ECO" mean on EVIC with V6?

The Jeep is a Jeep.
The ML is gonna be an ML.

They honestly don't share as much of the platform or engines for that matter, as people are saying, believe me.

What do you base that on?

Platform I mean.... I know engine/boxes aren't shared.

Re: What does "ECO" mean on EVIC with V6?

They share the same platform. Press release after press release have been telling us this.

Re: What does "ECO" mean on EVIC with V6?

"Platform" can mean they'll be very similar, or they may not seem all that closely related. I doubt parking a Grand Cherokee right next to a ML is going to make people say "hey, the Benz looks like the Jeep!"

The Jeep is a VERY good vehicle, but Mercedes is likely to take the ML is a different direction- most obviously, they'll trade the off road prowess for on pavement feel. People aren't stump jumping the ML. There's likely to be a relation, but I'm expecting them to be more like cousins than siblings (such as the similarity between the GC and Durango).
