By "there is no such thing" that means it is not on the current model. I know the 04 and 05 models had a string of LEDs on the rear ceiling that lit up a number of yellow, orange and red lights depending on how close you were getting to an object in the rear. You were able to see these lights in the rear view mirror while backing up.

The 2011/12 models changed this feature and moved the warnings.

It is especially necessary to turn off park assist when towing a trailer (or even a rear mounted bike rack) as the rear parking sensors pick up the trailer as being to close when you are in reverse and will warn you constantly that you are too close to a rear object. Another time to turn off park assist is when the rear is covered in snow or mud.

Re: What does this button do?

Pressing and illuminating that button turns off the Parking Assist function.

BTW, this does not turn off the Cross Path Detection function. The WK2 will still alert if it detects an object that appears to be about to cross your path while backing up.

My 2008 also has this feature, that is what I was referring to in my other post.

I figured it was probably there through 2010 but didn't want to assume

I think it was dumb to move the visual warning indicator to the center of the gauge cluster. I mean who is looking there while backing up???!!!!?!?!

By that logic, though, who's looking at the WK's ceiling-mounted LEDs while backing up? Personally, I don't think either of the visual warnings are needed. If the audible chimes, reverse camera, rear view mirror, side view mirrors and rotating human head aren't enough then I think there's a real problem that no Jeep will ever be able to address.
