what does your tailgate look like?

So last year, my GC was rear end. They replaced the tailgate and such too.

I changed the bulbs to LED for the rears today. I noticed a few anomalies. First thing is, the tip driver side nut wasn't secure. It was loose. I believe it's the nut holding the tailgate spoiler. It was dangling near the end of the post. So I tighten it down. I checked the passenger side. It does stick flush against the panel, but I was able to turn it with ease. So I just snugged that one.

Then I noticed the hinges for the tailgate. The driver side has these silver washer spacers. Passenger didn't. No clue why the shop would do this.... I suspect there should be no spacers? Also, the nuts are starting to rust bc the paint is chipping from it.

Then when I pulled the inner plastic cover, I noticed my driver side top panel has been damaged. The 2 prongs that go into the metal clips broke off. Looks like someone tried to use epoxy to weld it back on, but that didn't work. So this area doesn't sit flush against the tailgate. Short of buying a new panel, not sure how I could secure it cleanly.

Re: what does your tailgate look like?

Yeah unfortunately that's the kind of stuff that can happen after an accident. Sometimes panels get broken and/or not put back on right, sometimes panels don't align back up perfectly either.
I just checked my Jeep and there are no spacers on the hinges. They probably needed it for alignment. As far as the panel, you could probably get a new one for pretty cheap on all allmoparparts.com or something.

Thanks for the website. Found the part number bc of it. Only $60 after shipping.

The area where the cut off the damage tail light and welded area looks terrible.

I want a new car.

Re: what does your tailgate look like?

I just looked for you and if you decide you want to keep the Jeep that interior panel that I think you're talking about is $48.59 plus shipping. Not terrible if you would like to fix it up a bit.

I'm more concerned about rattles and such, since that side wont be held down tight.

Well it would be held down tight with a new panel is all I'm saying. If the part was broken in the accident or the body shop guys broke the panel removing or installing it, the panel should have been replaced, but they probably didnt care and tried to rig it.
