Re: What Gas Station do you use?

Yes, the gasoline is the same, but it seems that so-called "TopTier" providers have certain additives in higher proportions than others. Personally, I buy on price, although I avoid total "no name" stations. Typically, Costco, Speedway, Shell and Wawa get my business as well as one Sunoco station that's near my "VA Office".

Allegedly the detergent/additive must be spread across all grades sold by the retailer or company and available at all stations.

Some of the older no-name brands are now Top Tier brands. I can recall when a few of the current top tiers were considered as "drip gas" suitable only for teenagers with stove bolt 6 engines.

I wonder if more brands are meeting the older BMW standard in effort to compete, or if the standards themselves are now lower so everybody can pay to get the logo on their pumps.

lstowell, what's not clear to me is "when" the additives are added to the fuel these days. Back in the 1970s when I was briefly "in the biz", companies ran their own trucks from their own refineries, but these days, it's all independent haulers going everywhere from the same (few) refineries to "any brand" that's needing supply.

Jim, I have read that the extra additive packages for the various vendors are added when the tanker truck is filled. So the same base gas from a pipeline or whatever but that additive pack that gives it the shell, exxon......which is what you may pay a bit more for is mixed at tanker fill up. So you theoretically are getting different stuff at the pump depending on what's in that additive pack. Whether it's worth more money or not is a different debate. From what I understood the base gas does have a minimal required additive pack so you should never get gas without the minimum additive but how much more or better of the vendor additive is would be the delta.

Re: What Gas Station do you use?

I buy diesel by the grocery store where I earn fuel discount points and usually get anywhere from 30 to 70 cents off per gallon on our monthly fill-up.
